FYI,

Yes, I am stupid, ever time I buy something from WalMart I end up looking very dumb. MCG and I made a hasty trip to Billings this afternoon, left the house around 3:15 this afternoon, round trip Billings to here is 3 hours. Got here by 7:15 only because daughter and I went to WalMart to purchase our groceries.

This is the second time I've had a major complaint. When will I learn?

We never killed a beef last year so once in awhile I will purchase some steaks just because we crave them (only beef left at home is hamburger, short ribs and stew meat). I have no problem with short ribs and stew meat, we have wonderful recipes which incorporate them. Same with hamburger.

I, Hanta Yo purchased some Beef Sirloin Steak Petite from WalMart. What does it say on the sticker placed on the package?? (Guess what, me, a rancher, am too much in a hurry to read the label, wanna get home just like everybody else) and it says:

SIRLOIN PETITE STEAK

Enhanced with up to an eleven percent solution (in teeny, tiny words)

Use or freeze by 05.30.06

Price/lb: $4.18
Net Wt. 1.40 lb

Total Price $5.85

Doesn't that "enhanced" version sound like POULTRY?????

So now I am figuring out, the consumer is in a hurry after work, don't read the labels (for which I was guilty) because they are in a hurry.

I'll let ya know how it eats Crying or Very sad [/i]

If you put that on the grill Hanta, it'll put the briquets out with all that water. Watch out for splatters if you put it in grease. Wink

remember the old commercial for chicken nuggets where the person says "parts is parts"....sound familiar???? Wink Wink
I gotta admit that when I gotta buy our beef, I like to go to Safeway for their "Ranchers Reserve"...super tender, tasty and safeway has good prices...the ranchers reserve is higher priced than their "bargain" brand, but well worth it!!
By the way, if you should find out what the "solution" added was, let the rest of us know!! Wink

Hey, folks, the eating experience was AWFUL!!! Maybe a little easy to chew because of the liquid injected, but no flavor. No pink in the meat - no fat in the meat since it is probably select MINUS purchased cheap by WALMART and ENHANCED to make it edible. I'm in big trouble with sw Embarassed Crying or Very sad for doing what I did BECAUSE I KNOW BETTER!!! I wasted over $10.00 on a piece of cr@p and it didn't eat very good. WalMart is NOT doing justice to our BEEF!!!! Exclamation

Mrs Greg,

I meant enhance with the eleven percent solution, perhaps the same solution they enhance poultry with. I know when we buy poultry (rarely) half of the lbs in the poultry is water.

That's ok, my mind gets way ahead of my fingers and sometimes I don't clarify myself, besides I don't know if Canada does the same thing with their poultry. I wouldn't know. I think this Ranchers.net is a neat cultural exchange. A good way to learn how our Northern neighbors do things. Along with our Australian people and countless others from different countries.

Just got curious Hanta when you posted this about Wal-Mart. Look at what they have to say about "your deliscious steak" okay I am being ugly(haha) but seriously they think they are helping the consumer. Think we will stick to our FRESH COW....

Easty

Checked it out, Easty. I should have taken a pic of the meat and I know select from choice and this was red, watery looking beef with hardly any marbling. That's why I came up with Select MINUS and they don't have the grade on the packaging, nor in the meat counter.

If the consumer doesn't know how to cook beef (as most of us ranchers do) then a steak from WalMart will be a BAD EXPERIENCE. You'll just be able to chew it, and NO FLAVOR!!!! No flavor at all Crying or Very sad Crying or Very sad
