This morning, one of our neighbors wanted us to go haul a horse for him. Now, this guy (a distant cousin of Hubby's) is probably not 5' tall, probably doesn't weigh 100#, and is old as the hills.........and from the city, to boot. Rolling Eyes Probably never was around a horse till he moved up here a couple of years ago.

So, we hook onto the trailer, drive up the road about half a mile, and here he is, out in a field, trying to put a halter on a pretty nice looking bay stud. He's standing right in front of the horse, the halter in both hands, trying to slip it on the horse's nose. Everytime he tries, the horse backs up.......and the old fella chases him........I have no idea how long we would have been there, if Hubby hadn't taken the leadrope and put around the stud's neck, then put the halter on him. Rolling Eyes

So, he's got the halter on, and now the old guy starts trying to lead him over to where the trailer is........I'm not sure this stud is even broke to lead, the way he acted. It was quite amusing to see this horse, standing with all 4 feet planted firmly on the ground, his neck stretched out about as far as it would stretch, and the old guy really leaning into the leadrope......so much, even, that his hip pockets are about to drag the ground, and his arms out straight, pulling... Rolling Eyes He finally gets him pulled over to the trailer, and then the fun began........this horse has probably never even SEEN a trailer, much less, ridden in one. After several attempts, Hubby gets a butt rope on him, and after a few tries, he finally jumps in the trailer, knocking his shoulder on the side. He's in the 16' stock trailer, rearing up, I'm afraid he's going to get his feet over the side, and come back out.....and the old guy is trying to wrassle the gate closed......

We finally get him tied in, the gate closed, and are headed down to the ole boy's house, with the stud trying to rear up, and get out. There's a little bridge you have to cross to get to the neighbor's, and when the trailer went across that, he tried to fall over. I don't think he'd ever ridden in a trailer before, cause he was just bouncing all over the place.

Got him down there, and first thing he did when he finally gave this huge lunge to get out, was go over and try to breed a (male) mule...... He pulled the leadrope out of the old guy's hands (probably burning them in the process) and got it between his legs......kinda jumped around for a while before the old guy could catch the end of the leadrope again, and tie him to the (get this) spare tire in the back of his pickup.

When we left, the horse was about to unload the spare (bet that was a wreck).......we laughed all the way home, about every "dude" needing a stud hoss for a pet........ Rolling Eyes

Wrecks can be fun, in hindsight, and if no one gets hurt, animal or man. Very Happy

The camera was in the pickup seat........I told Hubby in hindsight, that I probably should have gotten out and taken pictures of the wreck, but figgered me being out there would have only upset the stud more..........

It was amusing as all get-out, and the last we saw of them, no one was hurt, but the mule was standing there with a really confused look on his face... Rolling Eyes

Nope, some folks really shouldn't have horses. I have no idea what the old guy plans to do with a stud.....as we drove off, I told him Good Luck!!!!! (Thanks, HayMaker, for that advice to pass on....... Wink )

He thanked me, but looked as confused about it as the mule was, about the other thing......... Laughing
