We have been working with an agent looking at places in Wilson county southeast of San Antonio. We would appreciate any info you can give.

We had a friend from San Antonio that came to eastern Montana for all
summer because he couldn't stand the summers there. And the
summers here aren't all that pleasant compared to western Montana,
so I figured it must really be bad around San Antonio. He invited us
there to take in the River Walk, but he passed away before we got
to do it.

We have a place in Karnes county, which is next to Wilson county. It is good cow country with moisture but dries up fast, stockpile your hay, dont sell any.

I have to say I love to visit San Antone and the hill country, but always glad to get back home. If I were to move West I would go to San Marcos/Wimberly area. I wont say it is any hotter than here, in fact sitting outside under the shade isnt to bad. Less Humidity than we have. I just like green, lol, and my trees over here. Haymaker should be able to give good advice on the areas. My oldest has family down around Three Rivers and he loves to go there....It is hot no matter where you go anymore. Best thing in our part and South Texas is that we do not have the long winters.

Easty

What type of place are you looking for and what do you want to do with your land?

Thank you everyone for all the responses. We were just there in the begining of june and it was about 98 degrees It was lovely Laughing . As you can probably see from my Avatar we are from south florida near the everglades Ya'll havn't been in humidity untill you have lived in a tropical climate. It was funny because every where we went there all we heard was how hot and sticky it was there. My husband and I would just look at each other and smile and we were enjoying the lovely dryness of it....Heck I had to actually start using hand lotion because my skin was getting so dry. But I loved every minute of it.

We arent ranchers, but do raise foundation Quarter Horses...just trying to carry on a little bit if history. We will just be raising horses on our property. We did go through San Marcos area and really like it there too.

We are trying to get out of the rat race that is south florida. I dont know if a nice person even exists here anymore. Just last night we drove into town to take our children to a movie and about got mowed down trying to cross the parking lot to the theatre.

Any way thanks everyone for your input. Is it hard to get Hay in this area? Timothy/Alfalfa mix goes for around about 14.95 a bale if you can find it Shocked

I guess it is all relative.

A young man from Missouri stayed a few weeks with us and it was
hot while he was here. Never fazed him in the least. He'd say, in a
Gomer Pyle voice,
"IT AIN'T HOTTT!!"

Glad to hear you have found something you like. Life is an
adventure. Go for it!!!

Thanks FH,

I am originally from Northern Idaho near Sandpoint and have been in South Florida for about 20 years. I have never really liked it here, no mountains heck not even any hills and no change of seasons really. Any way long story short I have not felt like I am home here ever and the prices of property up home have gotten really high so thats not really an option ( even if I could still tolerate the winters Surprised ) either. So for the last year we have been checking out different places in Texas. When I came over the hill on I10 into San Antonio it just felt like I was home for the first time in 20 years. The terrain is not the same as Northern Idaho by any means but the feeling of home was there. I know it sounds corny probably but I have missed that feeling.

So yes an adventure is definatley coming up and I cant wait!!!!! Wink

Gonna be one heck of a caravan between the horses, equipment, house stuff and the kids.......Even one blind goose going with us, we cant seem to leave him he does a pretty good job of keeping strangers off the place.

I hope ya'll find just the right spot.....cuz Texas can use some more horses, equipment, house stuff and kids along with one blind goose. And the parents. That is a pretty part of Texas I hafta say.
I made a trip to Floresville a few years back, friend of mine had a great aunt that lives down there, and she had two horses that she could no longer take care of (she's 90 years old) and asked if my friend would take them. She called me and asked if there was any way that we could use my horse trailer to haul em. I said, Yeap.....ROAD TRIP!!!!! Enjoyed it so much. She'd never really been out of this area, and we had a blast.

Hafta tell this part of this story, .........Aunt Jim and Karen and I had gone down to the barn pasture where the horses were, and had loaded the horses. Everything went fine, she insisted on loadin them herself , even at 90 years old, I was a bit hesitant, but she said they hadn't had anyone else messin with them in 10 years, and hadn't been loaded in all that time, she didnt want us gettin hurt Shocked LOL they loaded fine. On our way back thru the pasture, Aunt Jim was in the back seat, we were just talkin, I don't recall about what.....but I glanced in the back seat at her, and she had tears rollin down her face. I lost it, reached in the backseat for her hand, she grabbed hold......I stopped the truck, Karen by this time looks back to see what I'm doin, and see's Aunt Jim too....she lost it too. So there we sat, three women bawlin in the middle of the pasture in my truck, with the horses loaded in the trailer. I asked if she was sure she wanted to do this....she said yes, just was hard, cuz they was her long gone husbands pride and joy. I've been thru Floresville several times since then, and I always think of Aunt Jim. She lives with some of her kids now in Austin. She comes home here, on occasion and I get to see her. Her lil house, and 50 or so acres are a beautiful spot on earth.

Wish ya'll all the best with yer move to Texas.
