We just finished AIing the older cows, just in time for the Stockgrowers/Cattlewomen convention, we schedule things around industry meetings cause the people who show up run the world. We injected 180 cows and ended up breeding 140 of them for the AGA and some of our registered cows to who we wanted, so we had a pretty productive week and got done so Hanta could make her meetings and I got to stop in for some visiting before I had to go to MCGs concert. Plus I had a board of directors meeting for MBBA. Now it is time for R and R and get ready for Christmas. whew.

injected cows, we use gomer bulls and tail paint to identify heats, Gomez the gomer doing his yearly job

painted cows enjoying the day

the hot pen, as soon as you start putting cows into the pen, pheromones attract like minded cows so getting them in is pretty easy

we built a two cow breeding box inside an old barn about ten years ago, there has been about 2000 head through these boxes and we can get out of the wind, rain, snow, wind and get the job done.

Service with a smile, my AI partner, Dr. Ray Ansotegui at work doing what he has done for 40 years, looking down the back of a cow with his arm experimenting with yesterdays feed.

Ray has come and helped us AI, brand, move cows, anything we ask as long as he can get away. I help him breed in the spring if he needs help on a project and he helps us during the fall for two reasons:1) it gets him off campus duirng finals week when everyone in his class is wanting something and 2) cell phones don't work out here and most people can't find us. His retirement party is next Tuesday in Bozeman, 31 years at MSU, had to grade his last tests last night. I think its going to be fun, you better fly out.

Ray is retiring? Yikes... I wonder how many faculty members there I would still remember.. I only had ray for two classes, I think my wife had him for 4 of them but he was an interesting teacher, took a while for this easterner to appreciate him but that was mostl just adusting to a differerent environment.... Need to go check the webpage and see who is still around.. Its only been 7 or so years since my last class out there... Lot of interesting folks I got to meet.. Doubt I will be catching a flight however as I don't fly.

Rod Heitschmidt is also retiring from Ft. Keogh by Miles City, looks like the end of a good era, and """"progress"""" is moving on. Saw a couple of my old professors at MSGA convention, they are all retired or will be soon... Crying or Very sad
