Nice pictures, that is pretty country. We took a cut across road east of Valantine that runs north and south and we crossed an old bridge. The river had a cool washout or something like that. It wasn't a waterfall but kind of looked like it. Well anyway your pictures look like that area we drove through that day. I will have to ask TTB what that thing was called.
have a good Christmas.

| enjoyed the pictures. I'm afraid you're right--the weather is about to make a drastic change, but I guess there is nothing like a white Christmas.

Very nice pictures, Jassy. Fording the river looks like a chilly proposition. One nice January day a few years ago, JF Ranch, another fellow and I decided to ride horseback down Bear Creek and explore the countryside. We forded the Niobrara just above where Bear Creek runs in. JF Ranch was in the lead on a seasoned horse. I was on a fairly well broke Paint, who was making the crossing in good shape. I looked back at the other fellow just in time to see the colt that he was riding go down in the middle of the river. I turned back to see if I could be of any assistance, and my Paint went down too. Boy, that water was cold! (There was ice along the banks of the river.) We both clambored out of the water, pedestrian-style, and propped ourselves against a dead tree so we could drain the water out of our boots. We were still seven or eight miles from where we had parked a horse trailer ahead of time. It was a fairly chilly ride. We both had on chaps that sure helped keep us warm, as it cut the wind. JF Ranch had stayed dry, so he kind of mentioned to us occasionally, how warm and comfortable he was.

Yes I was dry, but it was a cold, windy day and I was worried sick about my two friends. I was watching them closely for signs of hypothermia and delerium (is that a word?), but they proved to be tough old coots and pretty much laughed it off. We got to the trailer in good shape, but I've wondered ever since if I'd been as hardy as those two, in their cold, wet pants & boots!
All are wonderful pictures, Jassy. You have a good eye for a photograph and apparently a good camera too.

| I loved the pictures of the cattle crossing the river!!! The pictures that everyone post, is a great way for those of us that don't have the opportunity to go on rides like that get a little taste of what it is like. Thanks for sharing.

Your pictures are wonderful, Jassy. Lots of cool shots there.
You certainly have the photographers 'eye.'
I liked them all!! Especially the cow on the bank,
your husband riding in the river (that is a good river horse,
you can tell by how he's watching;) and the three riders
above the cattle.
And the horse in the last picture looks alot
like our Zan Parr Bar bred gelding.
Lots of nice looking horses there.
Makes me think about crossing creeks with cattle. We've
had to do that every place we have been, except here.
First thing I said when I saw the lone cow in the water,
"OOOOOOO that looks pretty deep." Glad everything
went well. You never know til it's over, how crossing water
will go.
We lived on the Powder River for awhile. Let me tell you,
there is nothing like crossing the Powder with a bunch of cattle.
The bottom changes every day. Doesn't take long to figure
out what horse is good in the river and what ones aren't.
Not all of them are and can get you in trouble. You sure appreciate
the ones that are!!!!!!!!!!
Lots and lots of stories about that old beast, the Powder River.
