We might need some rain before next summer, but for now I will take this open weather.

Here is our bull herd. We have been feeding them some cake every two or three days.

Cows scattered out on range, grazing.

These are doing pretty good for not getting anything but grass, water, and salt.

More cows on range.

We hiked a ways up the draw from the pickup.

This one is our recently remodeled ranch house. Really, it is taken at the old Half Ranch. It has been there a long time. Different rocky point than you saw in the other picture.

Your cattle look to be in very good condition, Tap. That South Dakota hard grass is powerful stuff. Nice pictures.

You country looks great Tap, just the same as ours! I talked to my cousin outside Denver yesterday and she had almost three feet of snow piled in front of her door.

Yes Soapweed, it is good grass. The only problem is that it is so short it doesn't take much snow to cover it up. Smile Usually the wind blows enough to move the snow off anyway. Wink

What? No mineral? And Faster Horses didn't lay into you? You're really treading on thin ice there, Tap!

Great pictures, good cattle, BIG country... and a brown Christmas. It doesn't get better than that.

Many people don't know that the wind is why this ever became cow country to begin with. The wind blows the snow free, especially from the north and west facing slopes. In the old days, cows got to eat the east and south slopes in the summer and the rest in the winter. Smile

If it wasn't for wind, how would all them cows in the sandhills ever got a drink, before electricity? Smile
