OK I give up! What is the secret to having a really nicely pulled STRAIGHT wire fence. I have put up and taken down the wire about 8 zillion times and I am going to kick someone or something. Looks like it was built by a blind, drunk person. This is my first wire horse fence. It's that "v" mesh stuff. What a pain in the bum. You see all of these lovely straight fence in the brochures AAAARRRRGGGG> HELP!!!!!

Dontcha just love the fact that the rolls of wire out weight us by like 30 pounds Mad I think they are about 180 each. I love hauling 6 foot high wire through 12 inches of mud. (gosh am I ever a whiner today Embarassed ) Good luck getting the girls back where they are supposed to be . Naughty cows....

My adivce on horse mesh fence.

Step 1) Drive corner fences. Run a wire between the two and than drive your other posts along that wire. run fence. Voila... Step back, notice it is all screwed up. Curse and scream and walk into house and complain to your wife about her crazy idea that we needed new fence. Sit down on couch and watch baseball/football game or anyhting s you don't have to go back outside. Pick up phone, call fence contractor. Write check. You are done.

Only two flaws with the plan there IL. One : I don't have a wife. Two : fence contractors (wait for it, drumroll) Won't work in the (BAHAHAHA)rain..... (this is only funny cuz it rains almost every single day here this time of year.) Good ideas in theory though Smile

Yup. Jingles Jr got in on some of that stuff. Seemed to be very impressed with it.

Judith, fence contractors are a blast...lol.. The boss had one do a great deal of fence when we moved here.. He said that I didn't know what the heck I as doing (Probably right) and he wanted it done yesterday so we had someone come in and do it.. Cost a small fortune but got it done FAST.. I would probably still be doing it. I got to help put it up, which was fun, and about 1/2 mile was done in this 60 inch tall HT horse wire from premier fence. This was 5 years ago I think..... I still have vivid memories and half a roll left over.

Without the wife to blame I think maybe... Katrina.. Blame her... Wink Shocked Very Happy Laughing Laughing

okay listen up..... Wire a piece of pipe to woven wire end and use that to pull the wire taunt. Any where it is dragging or sagging put a piece of pipe through the woven part and pull to tighten... We have tore out millions of miles of hog wire and replace with barb wire....

Trust me this kind of crappy fencing is strictly for the TB breeders. I put up 10 jillion 2X6 planks last year and this year I am replacing absolutley everything for the couple months I will be here. Damn horses eat up every board and post in the place. (of course it's always the mares in for breeding the destroy every square inch of the place! Lovely free choice hay and they would rather chew the wood....grrr... The first mares arrive on the 15th and there is nothing fussier or crazier that TB owners. They inspect the paddocks with a magnifying glass and if there is anything sticking out yikes! I always find this amusing but bite my tongue. Have you ever seen the stables they are kept in at the tracks!!!! Doors falling off, dirty water tubs, pitchforks laying around! Shocked I had a woman pull a mare last year because my stalls are too small Shocked Umm they are 12X12 or 12X20 for mares with foal. When I asked her about it she said they looked small and her mare was unhappy... OK so now that you know what I deal with hopefully you will understand. Back in the old days we used to throw the horses behind two strands of barbed wire and never even worry about them..... Remind me again why I cater to TB folk.... i seem to have forgotten... LOL
