I am not at all familiar with him, but I did look at the ABS site you put up.
The things I noticed about him was that all his accuracy numbers are below .7. Also according to their bar graph his body length, rear legs and stature are all negative. I used Boyds New Day 8005 pretty heavy on both heifers and mature cows this year. So far I like the calves I've gotten.

I also like my Boyds New Day 8005 calves a lot. His price has jumped from $18 last year to $35 this year though. 6I6 has also given me some nice calves that are deep and thick but without much frame. I don't know anything about that Open Range bull but if he is like his sire he will be a good chouse if you plan to retain ownership to the rail.
I used Baldrige Nabraska on heifers last year and although I got small calves I won't use him again.

My EXT bred cattle are the calmest and best.
The EXT ' legend' is just that pure legend that is unfair.
If you look hard enough at any well known bull you'll find some crazies from his loins.
If it were me and I liked the bull I'd not pay any attention to the EXT legend but then if your ' gut' tells you he won't work for you, then there must be a reason your ' gut' is talking to you.

OT, try OCC Magnitude. He's an ABS bull and will do what you are
looking for.
We used him, perhaps you remember some of the pictures
I posted here in August or so. The ABS rep here came
at shipping time and looked at the calves. He was impressed.
More meat, thickness and hind quarter than most heifer bulls
show.
I think you would really be happy. We kept all the heifers as
replacements although we got a lot more bull calves than heifers.
He did say there were a couple in the bunch that would have been
defiinite bull prospects.
And they are GENTLE. REAL GENTLE.
Hope I helped!!!!!!!!!

OT,
I don't know about Open Range, but his MGS D806 will moderate frame and weight, if you don't mind the shot of Pine Drive Big Sky behind him. I guess you wouldn't, or you wouldn't use Open Range, duh?
OCC Magnitude is built right from what I have been able to gather from a couple of folks I really trust.
