Better make sure you have it. Two people I know have had grass fires on there outfits this winter from the wind blowing down power poles and starting grass fires.
The first person I know recieved an 18,000 fire dept bill. His insurance only will pay $10,000.
The second person had a much smaller fire but it crossed onto a neibhoring outfit and burned about 10 acres. Guestaments are that he will end up with a $5000 bill from fire dept. and the neibhor. The owner doesnt think he has any fire coverage on this 1/4 section where he fire started.
Both of these fires could have been much worse! If the fire starts on your property and takes out other peoples propertys aparently you are held liable.
A lot of people that used to asume that the power company was responsible if the powerlines start a fire are now apparently looking into buying fire insurance.
In both cases no money has actually changed hands yet but apparently the land owners are going to get stuck with the bills that should be going to the power company.

Scary huh...I'm not sure about this but I believe that each town is reponsible for setting the prices and where they go.....the insurance companies though, theres no reason they aren't covering the whole thing pay of the firetruck.

This is the way I understand it,if the power lines, like on a road allowance start a fire its the power companies prob, but if it starts on the line into your yard its your problam. Who knows what the rules are now that the government allowed the power companies to go private.

In our area here when we had the fires Mutual aid from the Province covers the cost of the fire dept call. We were very thankful for this. It s a volunteer fire dept so we sent a thank you card to the fire dept.

Oh. But I guess it would be more of a hassle to get FI around you guys down Calgary-way....even up here too, I guess, if you're considering the forest fire hazards that've been kicking around these past few years...

Lol,I confused you...we live in East Central Alberta. Roper is Southern Alta.Actually the extra farm insurance we buy has the fire insurance...thats here at home,we have NO insurance on our river pasture, along the Battle River...that almost cost us two years ago when our river nieghbors baler caught on fire and the fire spread to about thirty feet from our fence....yikes we would have had major problams then.

Oh about Angus...hes 14 your too old for him...lol If you stay around you'll get what I'm talking about.
