The wind is howling today, and I've already been bogged down with a telephone call cattle survey this morning. I have another written survey that is staring me in the face and making me mad. It is a sixteen-page very involved "nosy" survey put out by the USDA. They realize it is a hassle to fill out, because they sent $20 to "compensate" for the intrusion on my privacy. If they only knew it, I would pay them $20 if I didn't have to fill the bloomin' thing out.
Another survey cluttering up the desk is put out by Marketing Horizons, Inc. They wrote me a $10 check to fill it out. I feel like a male prostitute. I just feel violated.
Does a person legally have to fill out these things, or can I just plumb forget them? I hate paperwork, bureaucracies, bureaucrats, and everything that goes with them.
I should go kick the dog, but I guess I won't.

Send them their $10 and $20 dollar checks back. Then legally they haven't paid you to fill out anything........then along with their postage paid envelope........go ahead and stuff in some of the other junk mail you recieve......when they hafta pay the postage on the envelope.....more than it shoulda been if it was just the survey...maybe they'll get the idea. LOL
It's almost fun to do that with junk mail anyway......open it all up......shuffle it....then restuff the envelopes.....and drop em in the mail. Them credit card applications are the worlds worst....I get 4 or 5 every time I get my mail.

You should see the USDA grain crop survey...They have listed 150 varieties of wheat - 150 varieties of barley- 100 varieties of oats--etc. etc.
You can't just tell them you planted none of any--or all of one variety-- you have to fill in the blanks of the number of acres of each you seeded...
Absolute bureaucratic stupidity.......

There is a number you can call to stop all those credit card applications. I will try to post it tomorrow.

Aw heck, after teleponing Soapweed about my opinion on what he should do, I've decided to go ahead and post it.
I'd keep the money and if they're paying for the postage, return the blank forms with perhaps a note asking them to not send them again. If there is not a postage paid envelope, I'd pitch them. I don't think you are legally committed to anyone who has sent you an unsolicited gift.
I've yet to run on to anyone willing to do work for me without charging me plenty for it. If they want my "expert" advice or information, they'd better be willing to pay me $100 per hour for my time, then I'll decide if I want to mess with it. $10-20 may have been fair compensation 30 years ago, but not in this day & age. It's insulting to think they expect us to donate our time like that. It's no different than telemarketers who barge into our homes and occupy our time.
I'm with you Lilly, I would sometimes get a half dozen credit card applications a day in the mail. I started returning it all back to them including the original envelope with a note saying, "Don't send these anymore" and I've nearly quit getting them. I get more fun out of that approach than calling some "do not call/send list"!
