I saw in the Angus Journal last night that ABS is selling sexed semen on 878. It was priced at $50 straw which is very suprising. I figured it would cost more to get ahold of than that.
What's everyone else think about sexed semen?

| I always thought that it would be a good idea, if it was affordable.

Did it say what the accuracy was? I know a few years ago the sexing accuracy on the cheapest stuff wasn't that high yet-- altho the expensive stuff that was taken thru all the process's was pretty accurate...

A guy from ABS said those machines run 24 hours a day. He said it was a slow process. I think he said they have two machines. I think the accuracy is good but it the conception rate goes down a little from normal semen. (I think that is what he said don't quote me)
I think it is a pretty good idea for the right program. It sure isn't beneficial for every ranch program.
have a cold one

It says "Available in 1/4 cc straws - Recommended for use on heifers 12 hours after observed/expressed estrus. Expect conception rates to be 75-90% of normal rates."
It's pretty much say what Lazy Ace said about the conception rate being lower than normal. I sell for Accelerated so I always get the info on all the dairy semen also. They pretty much say the same with that semen, since they have been further ahead in the dairy than the beef semen. Pretty much a 20% lower conception rate than regular semen.
It's all very interesting. Oh wait, it also says there is some available on In Focus also, hmmm. Wouldn't really use In Focus, but .........
