Today I went out to feed the cows, and heifers. The first one's I fed, were in the pen. I went by myself, cuz Mr Lilly and Lil Lilly had to go check on the injured horse she's takin care of. Well....there I was in the feed house...and I noticed my truck was movin....not rollin, but jerkin around. Poor lil Rockie..one of the wieners is in the front seat lookin at me like Shocked what's goin on mom.......at first I just thought one of the cows had bumped the truck...but it kept movin. I quit what I was doin and went to go see what was happenin. Well I get behind my truck and find the one of the heifer calves had gotten her leg between the bumper and the tailgate of my truck......I pulled and yanked......with no results...she'd got herself turned toward the other side of the truck.....and wouldn't turn back the other way. I tried for a while to free her...put a rope around her back foot, and pulled..and pulled...it wasn't budgin. So I called Mr Lilly to tell him I needed some help before she ended up breakin her leg.
Then I went back to tryin to get her free'd.

Last resort I finally thought..dump some feed out on the side of the truck I wanted her to turn toward.......soon as I dumped it...she swung around real fast, and I thought she was gonna mow me down....but I managed to get out of the way......bucket and all...then she come aloose, and still comin towards me.....I keep runnin towards the feed house. LOL She wasn't after me, she was just disoriented, in pain I'm sure, and glad to be loose. She's a lil scuffed up.....but she'll be fine. Least her leg aint broke.

but I was glad I got her out without Mr Lilly gettin there to assist. He HATES havin things like that happen, has no patience for things he can't controll.

On to happier things.....we have on new bull calf that was born yesterday on Mr Lilly's Birthday..........

And one born today.

edit:
I guess maybe I shouldn't have titled this.."It only happens to me" I know it don't,stuff happens to other folks too. But it does seem like things happen like this when I'm by myself. It's extremely frustrating. But I'm glad things turned out ok. Good Lord was with me today for sure.

We'll never live long enough to see it all! Cattle can get themselves into the darnedest perdicaments!

You were very cool headed to think of that solution. It worked well.

That little black-nosed Charolais a dandy! My kind for sure.

That was smart thinking, for sure, to dump feed in front of her on the side you wished her to go. Congratulations on getting her out without breaking her leg. She'll be okay.

I dont' know that my stomach ever got near my throat....LOL...I was too busy tryin to get her aloose. I just knew what I was tryin wasn't workin and I had no idea how I was gonna get her out. It's amazin how fast you can get hot and hafta shed jackets and such when your doin that kinda thing.....that's what I did...took off my jacket and was puttin it in my truck when it dawned on me.......you have yer camera....if you don't take pictures no one's gonna bleave this LOL

Last year we had one get her foot stuck in the "fill hole" of the syrup lick......(prolly same one LOL) that was interestin too.

Oh he heard it alright.........LOL We took him out to eat mexican food....a friend of ours came along with us, and as we were ordering asked the waiter, "Do ya'll do anything special for people havin a birthday?"

After we'd almost got finished eating, they showed up.....about 6 of the mexican waiters...none of which speak english at all.....and they tried to sing "happy birthday" the one with the guitar couldn't play it, the one with the "squeeze box" couldnt play it....and none of the rest of em knew the words to the song, or the tune.......THEN....they gave him a sopapilla covered with cool whip....and spooned it on his face.....I was sooooo glad it wasn't me that asked if they do anything special..........hahahaha
