| Another good Sunday morning to ya. We had quite a discussion on Soapweeds this week, and not about our good friend and loyal website patron either. This was about the actual plant known as Yucca, Soapweeds or Spanish Bayonets. The root of the plant was really quite useful as soap to early settlers, and as discussed on the site, nutritious and palatable to cattle. The plant it self is not all that attractive, very stickery and otherwise just useless; desirable grasses don’t survive all that well where they are real thick. The bloom on them is very pretty, and as mentioned, cattle love them. The petals of the bloom are crisp and kind of sweet—taste some if you haven’t. Life is like that ol Soapweed. Some parts are useful and functional, some parts are pretty and kinda tasty, but some parts are just so downright thorny you could easily do without it. All of us have probably known a person or two—not very many—that always see the blooms, and never ever say a bad thing about anyone or complain about anything, although you know their life has its share of stickers. These people are well liked and respected by all who know them. We attended a very large funeral of such a person this last week. I’ll bet 9 of 10 of these lovely folks are Christians. Not the kind that are flashy, stand on the corner and blow my trumpet kind, but those folks who actually act like they believe what they believe (if that makes any sense). They just quietly practice what scripture teaches. Philippians 4:8 & 9 are some of the toughest verses in scripture to implement. Well you folks have yourself a good Sunday morning, and a good rest of the week too.
