I know absolutely positively nothing about guns.. I will need a gun for pred.control. I heard that coyotes are the biggest problem but you get the occasional bobcat in the sticks as well. Also I would like something with enough umph that I could put a horse or cow down if needed. Before anyone panics I will get a pro to show me how to use it properly and safely. I mean seriously would you give me a gun Cool

I've thought long and hard and came to the conclusion the best gun for you would be a bolus gun

30/30 is pretty hard to beat for all around.

.223 is good but a little small to put down cows and horses.

Maybe a pistol for cows and horses and a .223 for varmints. Oh, thats right, you guys can't have pistols, can you?

A .30-30?????? You gotta stay in close for that, I still say a .30-06, not too much recoil, and lots of bark.

I would got with a short action gun and stay away from a 30-06.. MAybe a 260 win or something to that affect... I would probably say you would be best served with a .223 but that is just me... You can take a cow down with a .22 worse case scenerio, that is what most of the lockers use anyways... I tend to use either a .45 or a 30-06 on a injured animal but that is just because I don't have a lot between a .22lr and a 30-06... One of the years Iwill buy a 22-250 or a 223.

The thought of Judith with a gun... Well, at least no one suggested a 50 BMG.

For a small lady like Judith, a 30/30 wouldn't have as much kick to it as a 30-06. If you flinch, your going to miss. Not good when shooting at varmints. Much worse when putting down a cow or a horse.

It does no good to shoot somehting your not comfortable with.

Only guys after big animals at long distances need the power of a 30-06. Or yiung men who haven't learned to place their shots well or the art of sneaking in close, for a shot. Wink

Er.. meant 243 but I suppose a 260 would be okay. TO me a 30-06 kicks a bit more than I like personally and it would beat the crud out of my wife who is about average size for a women (Or so the statistics say)...

I have never shot a 30-30 but it would probably work fine.. I don't think Judith is looking for 500 yard shots across the prairie...
