Nice boots but I cry foul, the cute little Kelpie puppy made it hard for me to even look at the other boots Laughing Laughing

Congratulations, Jerry H, on a nifty picture. Those boots are built differently than any I've seen before, with the pull holes located in an unusual spot. They look like they're built "foot tuff." Who made them for you?

I also noticed the different pull straps. But somethin else I noticed is, they look like they are cut strait all the way around at the top, instead of havin the drop down point in the front and back, and higher sides where the pull straps go.

Interestin pair of boots, and would like to know the "why for's" in the different style???

I have a brother that's a bootmaker, and also an uncle (passed on now) I have two pairs of boots made by my uncle. And neither pair fit like I wanted. Best pair of boots I have are the worn out ones I wear now (Prison made).

thanks soapweed and jersey lilly
i have them made at beck's boots in amarillo
they have made two pair for me and i like them both
the first pair i have been wearing for 4 years now and had to have them resoled and a hole in the top patched where it wore on my sturrip learther
the fit great and they last realy not very expensive if you figure how long they last

lilly
the why's
i have the tops made round so they fit right at the top of my calf and just below my knee
that way when i'm in the brush or in the woods in your case and i'm wearing chicks or batwings the brush doesn't get down in my boots
as for the pull holes i just have them leave the front ones off so the brush can't go down in there
and i don't know about ya'll but i don't ever use the ones in the front anyways
thanks again
jerry

Jerry H, I see that you wear your spur buckles on the outside of your boots. Some folks (me included) wear their's on the inside. You bring up some good points about why your boots are made the way they are, so I am curious about your reasoing for the spur buckles on the outside.

Mine I have now have been 1/2 soled 3 times and full heels and soles twice. Man I hate that week and a half that they are gone when that hasta happen. (It takes that long at least cuz of all the paperwork you hafta do to get em in and out of the prison) Mine just have the pull straps, not the holes.
If I"m out in the woods/brush I wear my jeans outside my boots. Keeps unwanted critters such as fire ants out of my boots LOL or at least it helps, it don't always KEEP EM OUT!!! Them lil beggers will go anywhere. My spurs (which don't see a whole lot of use) have the buckles on the inside, and I always think how unhandy it feels to buckle em on. My chinks buckle in the front, cuz I just thought it so unhandy to have them buckle in the back. So when I made em, I did em the way I wanted. I don't know how many times Mr Lilly told me...."yer doin it wrong" LOL I said...it ain't wrong if that's how I want it.
Thanks for sharin your reasons why. Always interestin, even the little details. Never know when ya might learn somethin useful. Very Happy

soapweed
i have lots of guys that wear their spur leathers on the inside but most of them ride with just the ball of their foot in the sturrip
growing up i wanted to be a saddle bronc rider so i always rode oxbow's with my foot run in there deep and the bukle tends to rub on my foot when it's on the inside
and even now i ride a 4 inch flat bottom sturrip i still put my foot in to the heeel some habits are hard to break
and if i remember correct my grandpa put my first ones on the outside
so right or wrong that's the way i have always done it

lilly
i always were my jeans shotgunned
my grandma swore that it helped keep chiggers and ticks out if you wore them on the inside and we had plenty of both growing up in north east texas
she also liked the way it kept the sweat from your horse off tour britches
and besides all that it just looks punchie
as for you chinks having the buckle in the front
that is a safty thing if you get that strap over the horn it gets real ugly if it doesn't break
my self i like mine to buckle in the front like yours
but when i have them made i just make shure there's a place in the belt that is thin enough that it will break if i get fouled
until later
jerry

Me n Chiggers aint no stranger. We got em here. LOL They didnt bother me up until last year. got my first 1....2...3....etc. I learned real fast to spray everthang from the waist down with deep woods OFF. Ain't the best smellin stuff (so Mr Lilly told me) but hey, when I"m out doin somethin I ain't out there to smell perdy.
Also figgered out how to get rid of em once ya got em. Put fingernail polish on em, then before it dries, get out the blow dryer and put it on high......point it at the spot you painted.....and hold it there till ya can't stand it no more. It won't itch anymore!!!! Gone...baked....dead chigger LOL
I find if I have em tucked in when I'm in the woods or tall grass I get chiggers worse then if they are out. Anymore tho...in the summer months I hafta spray all over cuz the skeeters try to tote me off if I don't. Seems I'm the only one of the family that the skeeters like. Rolling Eyes

This has been a real interestin thread/contest.
