i have lots of guys that wear their spur leathers on the inside but most of them ride with just the ball of their foot in the sturrip
growing up i wanted to be a saddle bronc rider so i always rode oxbow's with my foot run in there deep and the bukle tends to rub on my foot when it's on the inside
and even now i ride a 4 inch flat bottom sturrip i still put my foot in to the heeel some habits are hard to break
and if i remember correct my grandpa put my first ones on the outside
so right or wrong that's the way i have always done it

I like the "convenience" of having the spur strap buckle on the inside of my boot. Also be doing it this way, the pretty tooled part of the strap is on the outside where it is visible when the rider is horseback. It works well to cross one leg over the top of the other to put on or take off the spurs. If a person wears their spurs all the time, this part doesn't matter. It is somewhat cumbersome to drive a pickup (for me) while wearing spurs, and when I'm fencing or doing other type pedestrian work I don't like dragging around the extra weight of spurs. Besides, there is no point in me wearing my spurs in town trying to put on the image of being a better cowboy than I am. The neighbors all know me too well. Wink Smile

Here are another couple pictures of "boots" while I was messing around the other night.

Soapweed,
When I first seen your entry, I thought you'd taken pictures of Peach Blossom's boots. If them's yers, you must have an awfully small foot. Least they look little. Could be the ridin heel tho. I always think that makes a person look like they have a smaller foot than they actually do.
I sure do like them perdy blue tops Very Happy

Well, I always went on the same theory that Will James and Spike Van Cleve used. A cowboy always tries to make their feet look smaller than they are, even if your boots are too tight and it makes your feet hurt. Now with the new theories behind "big feet" and other things that might indicate, it is probably no honor to try to make your feet look as small as possible. Shocked Rolling Eyes Wink Smile

to tell the the truth my first thought of that piture was "now there's a cowpuncher with all the sh!! kicked out of him"
i had to laugh as i had left my boots and hat like that once and someone said that about me

and soapweed i'm with you on taking off my spurs to work afoot i take them off when i have get off my horse and work that way
that's not very often unless i have to get afoot and work in the prossesing barn or at a branding
when i go to town i wear a nice clean hat and a pair of shoes like chukkas or somthing "don't want to look to punchie as the folks around here know better also"
it's neat to see how folks do things in other areas with the same equipment
i've punched cows all this country and some in mexico and seen alot of other punchers and every one of them has somthing just a little differnt that they do
and i have tried to learn somthing from all of them be it good bad or indiffernt
until later
