The 18th annual Sandhills Cattle Association ranch tour was today. The weather cooperated wonderfully, with temperatures in the mid-forties. It was a very enjoyable day, and we got to see lots of top quality cattle on beautiful ranches deep in the heart of the Sandhills

Touring through the Kime ranch, farther away from any towns than any other ranch in Nebraska. It is 45 miles from Nenzel and 45 miles from Whitman, and are they really towns? Say what? Wink Smile

Bred heifers at the J.H. Kime & Sons Cattle Company

Kime Ranch from the south

Some of the Kime Cattle Company crew

Ronna Morse, the very capable manager of the SCA

John Ravenscroft explaining the operation of the Three Bar Cattle Company

Looking down on the Three Bar headquarters

Cattle that will be sold as grass fat in May or June. The Three Bar Ranch is organically certified.

They are already carrying a lot of condition

Another one

Dinner stop at the Cutcomb Lake School

Good beef

Some of the tour goers at the Jerry Adamson family's Rocking J Ranch

The very nice canopy covered arena, which measures 220 feet x 100 feet

Lowlines

Some half Maine Anjou half Angus bulls at the Rocking J

Duane Kime and Orville Beyea discussing ranch issues

Cute advertising slogan

Dee Adamson and some of her cutting horses

The tour continues to the next stop.

It is held in June, at a different ranch each year. I've only been to one of those events, and that was in 2001 when it was at the Thacher Cattle Company east of Valentine. It was a fun time, and the proceeds go to the American Heart Association.

Thanks for the pictures. I found the grass fat steers interesting. They are well conditioned for grass cattle (or they are to me). Do you know their age?

I think they were all born after the first of May in 2006, so will be right at two years of age when they are harvested in May or June of 2008.

I am just guessing, but think 1100# would be closer.

Thanks for the pictures! Kimes were the next place south of where I worked for a short time. Had a good friend that worked for Jerry Adamson, and spent lots of time running coyotes there. Was a trip back in time and I had fun! Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy John Ravenscroft isn't a kid anymore, but maybe I ain't either. We went to church at Ravenscrofts. It was held in their home.

Nenzle and Whitman I don't even think count as towns. Sad Aren't they both unincorporated? Whitman saw a very agriculture helping business shut the doors this fall. Plus the school went to. Sad It's seems that more of the small towns are having this happen. If it wasn't for the post office and some of the older people it seems these small Nebraska towns would just die.

Thanks for showing the lowlines. I'm gonna have to have Grandma come over and look. She wanted me to get pictures of them in Denver and they left the day before we got there. I won't be surprised if we don't have a few soon.

How little are y'all trying to make them CRM? Got a target in mind?
