I supported this war from day one...I think it was something the free world needed to do- it just saddens me that so much of that free world turned away from their obligations... I still believe that if all the countries of the free world had moved against Iraq we wouldn't have the amount of involvement as is now coming out of Syria and Iran....

I still support the war- but I'm starting to get hinky feelings about it....Its starting to appear to be micromanaged by whatever the press, the civilians, the peacemongers, the foreign governments, etc. are saying-- We're seeing solders being charged with crimes for events that happen during war- more and more shoot/don't shoot, can't engage until engaged orders - more we can bomb this area, but not go near that area rules... Just the same as we saw in Vietnam/Laos/Thailand....

War ain't pretty- folks dying ain't pretty...And civilians or unintentional/accidentally identified targets will be injured and killed-- and we shouldn't be making our troops have to make sure the person (man or woman or child) is packing his terrorist union card before he can shoot him....Kids packed bombs in Vietnam-kids killed troops in Nam and I'm sure they're doing the same here with these nutcases...The only press allowed in should be those living with the troops and getting shot at and blown up- definitely would give them a new outlook on what they want to report....

Either we actually fight a war- and take out whatever target presents itself--be they mosques storing weapons , or be they training camps or arms supplys in Syria or Iran or wherever-- or we get out- you can't start pussyfooting around and actually fight a war.....

GW walked into this (under bad advice of Cheney/Rummy) with his head up his butt- and didn't listen to those military folks that knew better- and then after he was committed only kept those that were yes men around him- which he's still doing.....And now most are speaking out.....

I think most in Canada forget that the US and the free world is in a major World War against the Muslim extremists-- we have seen many changes in the US since 911 and we will see many more before we WIN this war... Many in the states see that two of our former allies- Mexico and Canada- have been very laxidaisical and in some ways outright axis to our situation......

These people want to kill Americans and any free system we have-- they will go to any means to do so-- be it suicidal, biological, ecomomical or nuclear...And they will use whatever way to get into the states to do it and take anyone standing in their way......

Us immigration program is 10 years behind - but that said Mexico has absolutely no immigration program which allows any sheethead that wants in- in... Canadas is not much better- and Ottawa has given few assurances of making it better....

One of the best protections we have in many parts of this great country is the individual citizen that still has the right to pack a 45 on his hip and to be the eyes and ears of what our so-called good neighbor countries refuse to do.... I'd love to see the Minutemen Project shut down both borders-- not only for terrorists coming across, but for the contraband....

I don't think I've ever not said there are terrorists out there......I think I've put on posts telling that I knew Osama Bin Ladins name long before most of you- or the world and had heard it from the meetings I had attended with the FBI and CIA....In fact, if you remember I posted before that I was in one of those meetings the day Oklahoma City blew up- and the Agents there immediately thought Al Quaeda- and how the next morning when I woke up in the Motel I got the willies because their was a Ryder truck parked right outside below my window....
(Mike since those involved in the Oklahoma City bombing were found to be a gunshow guntrader and a farmer- should we declare world wide war on all gunshow guntraders and all farmers- like you insinuate we should do with Muslims Say what? )

And I still think because of the danger posed by radical terrorist groups (not only Muslim) that Bush is an idiot and endangering US citizens by not putting troops on the US border- securing the borders like he is sworn under the Constitution to do- and putting the ability of his his elitist rich folks ability to get cheap nannies, maids, poolkeepers and laborers over that of the safety to the US citizen....

And I don't think I ever said that I didn't support this war from day one on the info the President gave us- until much of the info he gave us was shown to be false or lies- and many of the former Generals, diplomats, military personell, etc started coming out and telling us about that...I don't even feel too bad about being suckered in by someone as dumb as GW, since he did the same to Colin Powell- who has since apologized to the world about it....Like I've said many times I'll always give a person the benefit of the doubt that they are credible- until they lose that credibility- and from then on they have to prove every point to me before I accept it....GW's administration over the past 5 years has lost all credibility with me...

When I wrote the above statement- was about the time I had quit drinking all the Bush Kool-Aid and started looking into the actions of him, Cheney and Rummy - and started realizing the unpreparedness we really had...Further examination and actions have made those quite evident to all but the Bushites....The reason the polls now stand at 68% of Americans wanting us out of Iraq.....

If you could start a business in your home town, or run the same business from the next town over with a 20% higher profit, based on tax savings, what would you do?

The One World Order Economy is beyond our control. We are no longer sailing boats across the ocean.

U.S. Corpo taxes are not the worst in the world. They are merely the second worst. Billion dollar industries would be stupid to set up shop here, given that circumstance. OT and the rest of the libs in this forum simply want to compound the situation into a worse scenario. We need to hang on to what we have, versus driving it out.

As twisted as OT's views are, I cannot support a thread that lashes out with a personal bash to that fool. Hence, this is my last post in this thread.

it was a bit enlighting to re-read old posts to see how some views have changed...

I was glad to see that I held true to my conservative values and have not changed much...

and yes, oldtimer..

Actually you are wrong on two instances there- I'm not really a liberal- not on most issues anyway- (altho I goosestep to no cultist parties drumbeat) and I do not want to see higher taxes...One of the reasons I voted for GW twice Rolling Eyes only to watch him and his Republican cronies spend more money and build more Federal bureaucracy than has been seen in ages in a nation building foreign policy of which type has historically and still is opposed by true conservatives.. Which he has not provided any way to pay for- and instead ran us so deeply into debt that the country is on the verge of bankruptcy... Sad

And even tho I don't want higher taxes--I believe we are going to have to start paying off the legacy of GW's bills and any other future bills instead of leaving it to be inherited by our children and grandchildren to pay Sad That will probably mean taxes- Actually I've been a long supporter of a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution- and I don't look lightly at toying with the Constitution for anything....

But if GW- and both the Republican and Democratic Congress are going to spend our money like it grows on trees anyway- I would much prefer it be spent in our own country on projects that benefit Americans- rather than handing out money right and left to the Iraqis and rebuilding their oil infrastructure for the oil companies- while they both profiteer.....
Iraq has unknown (thousands) of BILLIONS OF DOLLARS in banking accounts around the world ($200 Billion in US banks alone)....Its time for them to pay their own costs....

Mike and a couple of the neocons on here keep worrying themselves silly over the threat of Muslims attacking- and taking over the country...They won't have to- GW is giving and selling it to them one piece and one taxpayer dollar at a time... Sad Say what?

The last I knew all these countries named buying up our country were Muslim....

Breaking News from MoneyNews.com

Mideast Wealth Funds Rescue Developers

Flush with cash and looking for better-than-modest returns, several Middle Eastern sovereign wealth funds are putting money into carefully selected U.S. real estate ventures.

The funds, controlled by their governments of origin, have already pumped billions of investment dollars into U.S. companies and enterprises, but cash allocations to real estate ventures is a relatively new phenomenon.

MGM Mirage Inc., of Las Vegas received $2.96 billion from Dubai World, parent company of Istithmar. Istithmar, one of the bigger Middle Eastern investors, also holds a $100 million equity position in a complex Los Angeles project which will include a luxury hotel, the Grand.

The venture is being developed by Related, a private real estate development firm which developed New York's Time Warner Center. Related also received about $1 billion in recent months from both Mubadala Development Co., the Abu Dhabi investment fund; and from Kuwaiti and Saudi Arabian funds.

Also expecting to receive Middle Eastern SWF cash is Antares Investment Partners of Greenwich, Conn., now in the process of accumulating $500 million to buy commercial property in the New York Metro area.

Antares co-founder Joseph Beninati recently visited Abu Dhabi of the United Arab Emirates to talk with investors and explain his investment fund strategy.

Beninati's focus will be viable properties generating cash but perhaps with excessive leverage and in need of a reworking of their capital structures.

Middle Eastern SWFs, says Beninati, are in real estate for the long term and seldom need to liquidate holdings.

Unlike other holders of real estate properties, "They [SWFs] are never in a position where they have to liquidate in 36 months because a pension fund has to be paid," Beninati was quoted as saying in The Wall Street Journal.

Although many SWFs may invest in real estate for the long term, already SWF investments in U.S. real estate have paid off.

Last year Istithmar sold a pair of office buildings on Manhattan's prime Park Avenue. Each of the properties reportedly went for more than $1 billion.

So far total cash investment of sovereign wealth funds in real estate development is still comparatively modest, experts expect SWF money to increase as traditional credit markets continue to remain tight and other sources of development money remains scarce.

"There is no question this trend will continue," said Frank Liantonio, executive vice president for global capital markets at Cushman & Wakefield, a full service real estate brokerage firm with operations in 56 countries worldwide.

In today's disastrous credit crunch cash is cash, no matter what the source – with certain exceptions, of course – and so Liantonio told the Wall Street Journal that "…Sovereign wealth funds are perfect candidates for solutions to the problems we're encountering."

But Middle Eastern SWF portfolio managers do not invest as a monolith. Some prefer the safe, reliable returns of U.S. Treasury vehicles.

Others, like The Abu Dhabi Investment Authority, with asset holdings estimated as high as $900 billion, are said to be more venturesome and not excessively risk averse.

So the ADIA may blaze a trail of investments in U.S. real estate that other SWFs will follow as the trend gains momentum.
