Why are we still footing their bill? I always thought you only bought what you broke when in a store....not re-fit the WHOLE damn store.
And why are WE not getting some of that oil?
 |
Yep-- and its believed they have hundreds of Billions of dollars- stuck in bank accounts thruout the world (estimates of between $70-200 Billion + in US banks alone)....But GW keeps sending our taxpayer dollars to them to build their country- while doing nothing for folks/infrastructure in this country....
God forbid- we ask them to repay the costs- or do something on their own.....
Tommorrow is the 5th anniversary of GW's Aircraft carrier proclamation of "MISSION ACCOMPLISHED"--Victory in Iraq

Iraq is expected to reap huge oil-profits windfall
By PAULINE JELINEKThe Associated Press
WASHINGTON -- New data on Iraq oil revenues suggests that country's government will reap an even larger than expected windfall this year -- as much as $70 billion -- according to Stuart Bowen, special inspector general for Iraq reconstruction, in his latest quarterly report.
The previously undisclosed information is likely to strengthen the hand of U.S. lawmakers complaining that Iraqis aren't footing enough of the bill for rebuilding their nation -- particularly in light of rising oil production and world prices.
Oil prices Wednesday hovered near $120 a barrel.
Iraq's oil numbers
Monthly exports: Oil export revenue was $5.83 billion in December, according to new figures from the Iraqi government -- more than $1 billion over what it previously reported. That compares with $3.3 billion in July and $2.4 billion in January 2007.
Trend: The latest data "clearly substantiates ... that Iraq is enjoying a record windfall as the result of record oil prices, record oil production and record oil exports," Bowen said.
2008 exports: With the revised December figure, and continued strong production and export figures since then, Iraq's oil revenues could soar to $70 billion in 2008, Bowen said.
Budget projection: Iraq's 2008 budget is about $48 billion with some 84 percent coming from oil, officials have said. That was calculated using a $57-a-barrel price.
Congressional reaction
Legislation: Citing Iraq's oil windfall, Sen. Carl Levin, D-Mich., chairman of the Armed Services Committee, said that he will introduce legislation that would prohibit U.S. money from being spent on reconstruction and possibly other war-related costs. GOP lawmakers have signaled a willingness to back a measure on spending, depending on how it is written.
Other proposals: Lawmakers have suggested restricting future reconstruction dollars to loans instead of grants and asking Baghdad to pay for the fuel used by U.S. troops as well as take over U.S. payments to predominantly Sunni fighters in the Awakening movement.
Iraq's reaction
Samir Sumaida'ie, Iraq's ambassador to the U.S., sought Wednesday to assure members of Congress that Iraq was doing what it could.
"I assured them that the Iraqi government is not only willing, it is actually stepping up and taking [on] as much of the financial cost of reconstruction as possible. And we're doing it as fast as we can." |

US troop deaths push monthly toll to 7-month high in Iraq
By SLOBODAN LEKIC – 1 hour ago
BAGHDAD (AP) — The killings of five U.S. soldiers in separate attacks in Baghdad pushed the American death toll for April up to 49, making it the deadliest month since September. One soldier died when his vehicle was struck by a roadside bomb. The second died of wounds sustained when he was attacked by small-arms fire, the military said Wednesday. Both incidents occurred Tuesday in northwestern Baghdad. |

I seem to recall Bush claiming the oil revenue from Iraq would pay for rebuilding the country. It wouldn't cost the American taxpayers one red cent.
Maybe that was before he learned to read from the teleprompter & he got it wrong?

Because this was an unjust war, we should have never went in in first place. We owe them everything. If we were criminals and we falsely invaded their country. They should be able to keep what is theirs and we should be made to make them whole again.
Is that not what you Liberals believe? |
Whoa Nellie! But, don't you guys preach to pay your own way!
Why can't they pay their own way now that we've gone and run off the ' snakes & bears' for them?
They're making big bucks now....and you still want them on welfare?
I swear you guys talk out of both sides of your mouth more than John McCain does!!!!!!!!!
I believe if you need some help....fine , get it.
Say Thank You when you're able to make it on your own and move on. I'd say making a min. of $70B is more than enough to get them started.
The REAL PROBLEM for the Admn. is with this economy SOOOO bad now...if they even bring the troops home...what are they gonna do with them? << Before you start screaming how good the economy is...it's up less than 1%>>
Most of Reservist have prob lost their jobs by now by having to do such long tours..... a lot of guys will not " re-up".....then what???? |
70 Billion dollars is not that much money when you consider everything that that the Iraqi people have to rebuild, we destroyed infrastructure, we dismantled their army and means of protecting themselves, bridges.
Then they have things such as schools and Hospitals that needed buit from before we went over and being the humanitarians we are we should allow them to build these things.
And then you have the issue that you Liberals believe we should never have went to Iraq in first place, that the war was unjust and a crime against their nation. If this is true, they should get to spend that 70 Billion on ipods, new cars, Cable TV and $600.00 shoes as we Americans do. If the war was unjust we should pay for everything and protect them since we dismantled their army. Don't you Liberals agree?

You're really getting pitiful. No, just because we objected to the war from the start, we liberals don't think we owe Iraq squat. You and your ilk are desperately throwing poop against the wall to find something that will stick. I don't think this is it. But keep scooping Bush's poop, it's pretty funny.

I can respect someone that felt we should not have went to war, but I can not respect someone that believes that that but does not believe we owe it to make them whole again. That says a lot about the type of person you are! Fits perfectly in with the Liberals views on Abortion and Wealth Distribution you are selfish and only care about yourselves and how things affect you.
If the war was unjust then we owe it to stay and protect and rebuild their country. If the war was wrong We do owe the Iraq squat you selfish person. I have no idea how you can rationalize anything other than that with a clear conscience.

Poop on your "respect." Why should I care about the respect of someone who has been wrong about everything that's gone on in Iraq? Your credibility is totally nil. So go blow hot air on someone who gives a flip about your "respect."
Iraq is a soverign country. We should pull our troops out ASAP and let them work to rebuild it themselves, with our advice and technical assistance, if they ask for them. But not our money. They're setting on billions of dollars while we continue to run up a Federal deficit.

How do you justify that? Did we not invade them unjustly? Why should they have to pay to fix what we took from them????????? You selfish woman! Sad thing is you do not even get how selfish you sound! We destroy their army and country and you think that we should not have ever did that, but then you think we do not owe them to fix EVERTHING we destroyed. You selfish woman! You hypocrite!
