Pics of our local salesyard on from last Sunday. Calf sale was the day before. This is the largest sales barn, based on capacity, in Ontario. 1500+ head went through the ring. 1100 Calves, 212 yearlings, 12 cull bulls and the rest in cull cows. Neighbours had 8 late-March/early April purebred Hereford steers at 569 average, got $96.50 cwt. Friends had about 25 straightbred Hereford steers, born early March, with weights from 615 to 650, they got 90.50 to 101.00 cwt. Saw a pen of 18 Angus steers, ave. 430 lbs, born early April, went for $1.32. We shipped one cull cow, at 1365 lbs, got 41.50 cwt for her. Average on the cull cows was 40-42 cwt and bulls were 63-68 cwt. Calves averaged about 90-105.00 cwt on the steers and 75-95.00 on the heifers. Regardless of size, most calves between 400-600 lbs sold for about $500 a piece. Cowboy

Thanks for sharing Aaron. Sounds about the same here, other than the smaller they are, the less hands there seems to be in the air. They want 'em heavier so they don't have to feed 'em as long. You'd think with barley being cheaper that that would change a bit, but not so far. Feedlots are paying $3.25-3.75/bu for heavy barley, delivered, but it's dropping.
