I've said all along that Palin was just "fresh meat" that the McCain thought he could throw out there, appease part of the base, maybe some women- and if it didn't work- just throw her to the dogs as the scapegoat to go back to Alaska and never be heard of again...

Quote:
Palin Whips the Base into a Frenzy

The decision to pick an unknown evangelical governor as John McCain's running mate has succeeded beyond Steve Schmidt's wildest dreams. Way beyond. Sarah Palin has perfect aim when throwing red meat to partisan crowds and whipping them into a frenzy to the point when people at rallies yell: "terrorist" and "kill him" about Obama. Then Palin can conveniently say she did not say that but the point is made anyway. Of course when this happens she could say: "Somebody grab that guy and drag him out of here. I don't want people like that at my rallies" but she never does. She winks and basks. The trouble for Palin and now McCain is that this frenzy has been widely reported and condemned and it is turning off crucial independent voters in droves. The featured commentary at intrade.com is about Palin, saying: "Rove's creation has turned into a mob baying for blood." Even leading conservative columnists don't like this. Kathleen Parker has called for her to drop off the ticket. The bettors agree that Rove III is not working. Ten shares of McCain stock cost $23 this morning. This means that if you are absolutely convinced McCain will win, you can invest, say, $23,000 now and collect $100,000 in 3 weeks if McCain wins.

The consequence of this whole campaign could be far reaching. If Obama wins and the exit polls show independents voted overwhelmingly for him, the pundits are going to lay the blame at Palin's high heels and advise the GOP to forget the evangelicals and run candidates with financial expertise (like Mitt Romney) in the future. Needless to say, the evangelicals, who finally got one of their own on the ticket, won't take this well and the ensuing battle will tear the Republican Party to bits.

Palin is now dragging McCain down. Generally the VP pick doesn't make much difference with the voters. But this year seems to be different. I think he ruffled a lot of female feathers when he picked her to appeal to Hillary voters. Laughing Is he really so out of touch? Not that he didn't pick up a few, but polls are showing the more people know about her, the less they like her. Her approval/disapproval ratings are now about even.

Quote:
Gov. Sarah Palin's favorable/unfavorable ratings have suffered a stunning 21 point collapse in just one week, according to Research 2000 polling. Last week, 52% approved and 35% disapproved of the GOP vice presidential nominee (+17 net). This week, 42% approved and 46% disapprove (-4 net).

Earlier this week, Newsweek also saw the drop in other polling. "Over the course of a single weekend... Palin went from being the most popular White House hopeful to the least."

Fact is, she's still drawing huge crowds everywhere she goes. And lots of them are admitted independents. Guess we'll find out election day. I'll support the winner. Smile

A recent study by the Barna Research Group concluded that most Americans under the age of 40 have a negative view of evangelical Christians as a result of the activities of the Christian Right.

When describing voting trends of twenty-somethings, neoconservative journalist David Frum commented on a divergence of viewpoint between the Christian right and younger generations and the inability of the current Christian right leadership to connect with the values and aspirations of the next generation:

Quote:
The Republican Party has become increasingly identified with conservative Christianity. Younger Americans are becoming more secular and more permissive. In particular, young Americans have become increasingly tolerant of homosexuality and increasingly willing to have children outside marriage. While unmarried births have dropped among teenagers since the welfare reform of 1995, unmarried births have actually been rising among women in their 20s.

– David Frum, Why the GOP lost the youth vote, USAToday

The problem is the Christian right that Palin identifies with- and is bringing in to these rallys- are the same people that so many younger voters and Independents are scared to death of ...

And then when these same folks see these "Christians" acting "Frankie style" like this on all the nightly news stories she scares the crap out of them and turns them off to McCain/Palin...I know it does me (and I'm over 40)- because thats the last thing we need is a more divided country...Its already more deeply divided than I've seen ever in my lifetime - and McCain/Palin are trying to divide it more....

Many of the top Repubs- including Newt and the Repub Governors have asked McCain to drop this rhetoric, before he takes down more of the Repub candidates- and if he's going to lose, lose with dignity, arguing the issues not spouting hate - rather than going out like a cranky, spiteful old man...

OT is is BAD when the country is divided between right and wrong? Is it bad to stand up for what you think is good and right?? Maybe some of you Old Timers should teach your kids right and wrong.

As for what the crowds are yelling.....Hillary planted people in Obama's crowds to do the same thing. Maybe those are his people who actually trying to stir up the pot. Ever thought about that????????? Naw...liberal dems would never do such a thing. It might divide someone.
