I kept several breeds when at school, Light Sussex, Whit Leghorn, Australorp and Rhode Island Red, hatching eggs in my incubater, and selling eggs. Once I had bought my ranch I went through several commercial hybrids, both layers and slaughter birds, I wouldn't mind keeping a few rare breed fowl as a hobby and for eggs again.
The farm here has naked neck free range slaughter fowl and two types of Maran layers, new types are often trialed for our specialised markets.

Haymaker, for those of us who lived 100 miles from proper stores, most of it dirt track, we had to ba as self sufficient as possible or do without, and I like some eggs with my home smoked bacon, you guys really don't know how lucky you are with a Wallmart every 10 miles Laughing

Nothing came up on the page Say what?

Came up just fine this side of the Atlantic, Bilbuckaroo Wink

Well we got wiped out of our chickens last fall,as did our niehbors. My niehbor shot the coon 3 times and the sucker still ran off, thier as big as small dogs around here.Never did find the body Say what? Lots of varmits around here.Any way were in the market for a new flock of chickens, new and improved coop of course, wondering what kind of different breeds are out there. We like fresh eggs every day and homegrown chicken is way better than any store bought,at least the one's we've raised.Even thought about buying a milk cow,but i'm not optimistic enough to milk twice a day Wink Cool
