I have had good luck with figure 8 hobbles, that is till I got this gray horse, dont always have a place to pen him when we are working and dont always want to unbridle/halter and tie.......so I always carry a pair of figure 8's with me,just get off, loosen the cinch a couple knotches, hobble your horse unclip the reins and let him graze/stand.
Well this gray horse can get out of them alot faster than you can put a pair on,thought i would get these.

good luck

PS I am too damn old to be chasin a horse, damned thing can pert near out run me with hobbles much less with one hangin.
Which type do you use ?

on my ranch horse, i just wrap the reins around his neck and let him go. he just stays right there cause hes just happy to be on dry ground again. on my young ones i use the ones in the pic. they work very well and only come off about 20% of the time. Confused

That old Ropin horse we have...can run just as fast with hobbles as he can without. He gets haltered and tied. LOL

Some Horses CAN RUN FASTER with hobbles on.
Some 1/4 Horse Trainers teach their horses to run on-straight-aways with hobbles
I had a Stud that would "Ground Tie" just fine (drop reings) but Hobble him and he was gone...

To Stop Hobble run-off I had to let a rope drag from the Hobbles
In 70+ years I have never had a horse get out of Hobbles that were put on right

The First Thing I teach a Horse/Foul is to Hobble... - A drag rope will teach them NOT to Run!
