[Faster horses]

It was a good sale and well-run, we thought. I think the people were
pretty honest about things. Craig Deveraux made some announcements
from the block that was straight up. The catalog said Seth Weishaar was
going to be the auctioneer, but it was Lynn.

8 horses were out of the sale.

#1 was out due to a soundness problem. Craig brought him to the
sale and tied him to the trailer. He looked like a good one...made right.
I guess the vet called his problem in the right front, but the owners
think it is the left hind.

#2-$6900

#4-He was out. He's a local horse from here and they think he'll
be okay, but they didn't take him to the sale.

#10-$9400. He was a dandy. (I bid on this one).

#13-$4600

#19-TOPPED THE SALE. 10 years old and not really a rope horse,
kind of a using horse. She did show him on barrels and poles. He
was cute!! Get this: $15,500. Southern Cross ranch
bought him, whoever that is. They bought some other good ones too.

#20-$5900. This was a nice horse, but had underrun heels, which
we don't care for.

#30-$4900

#-40-$5600. This is the one I thought we should have bought.
We know who did buy him and Mr. FH wouldn't bid against them.
He said they needed him worse than we did.

#-54 Out. This was a horse that they really, really liked. We went down
to see this horse especially. He was tied to the trailer with the #1 horse
to show they hadn't been presold or anything. He's one of those head
scratchers like we have standing in our pasture. Good one day, lame the next.

#66-That was the last horse and that's the only one I didn't get
a price on. She was really attractive. Deveraux's 12-year old daughter
rode her through. Those kids are hands. It was fun to watch them.
2 little boys and their 12-year old sister.

The sale highlight IMO, was a 4-year old palamino that won the Ranch
Horse competition. Number 56. Owned by a real cool Mexican fellow that manages a big ranch between Newcastle and Wright, Wy. He was
a great hand. That horse was really, really broke. He said he would take
him back and ride him for free for another month. He really liked this
horse, you could tell. He heeled on him in the preview without a bridle.
Because he won the Ranch Horse competition, he was the first one to sell and I think it hurt the price as he brought $6000. I think he was a good
buy at that for someone that had the use for him. A short little gal
bought him. The picture should be in the Tri-State next week, I'm thinking.
Oh to be young again. My hands were itching.

Winning Reserve in the Ranch Horse competition was #29 and
he sold for $4000.

The horses that sold over $5000:
#27-$5100. He had been rode hard. I thought too hard...

31-$7500. This horse is 16 years old. He looked good and was nice!!
33-$5000. Really an attractive horse, but small. I liked him alot.
37-$5000 Owned by the same fellow that had the #56 horse.
38-$6800. Southern Cross bought this horse too.
39-$7100
41-$6700
49-$6900
50-$6500. This was another of my picks. He was nice, but not as nice
or made as well as #56. Just sold further into the sale. He wasn't very
tall and was long-backed. But a nice horse. 4 stocking legs and white feet.
51-$6000
55-$7600
58-$5200 He was a 3-year old. Very handy.
62-$5300

A nice young horse that I liked, #47 brought $2500.
64-$1800
28-$1400
14-$2600
12-$2800
6-$2400

The rest sold between $3000 and $5000.
A 10-year old mare that bucked the rider off in the
preview brought $3700. #59.

What I really noticed is how broke these horses were. It's not
the old 'spur and jerk' as cross their feet to turn around, drop their head
to stop and/or back up kind of thing. I think people are really starting to strive to have better. It's really nice to see.
and nicer broke horses.

That would have been Alvero that won the competition FH. He works for Candi Keeline. He always has some good horses for sale. He will find a diamond in the rough pretty cheap and take it home to the ranch and polish it. He is a helluva horseman. When you buy a horse from him you get a good one.

Oh I am sure BAR BAR 2. And you have the right man.

One lady said "That guy can make a bad horse look good."
He really is a horseman. I so wish we were younger
and had use for that particular horse. But we don't.

thanks for the report, FH. we would have like to make it over there, but from the looks of it, everything we were interested in was out of our price range anyways. i guess we'll keep lookin.....
