I knew Butch Black when we were kids, as he used to spend time with his cousins who were our friends. Hadn't seen Butch for quite a long time until this spring when I attended his bull sale. We shared some childhood memories about a picnic down on the Snake River, long before the highway was completed between Merriman and Hyannis. About seven car loads of us attended that event, and John Burton had the only four-wheel drive vehicle along. He was the hero, because every car got stuck and the little Bronco got to pull them all through a sandy pass, both coming and going. That was in the summer of 1966.
Butch's mother had a very nice western store in Alliance back in those days. It was called "Black's Open Range."
I'll bet the horses are good ones. They were originally the Hairpin brand horses that Leachmans had in Montana.

That picnic got your Dad a bad reputation didn't it?
Something about jumping in the lake?

Just received the catalog. Appears to have an internet connection to the sale so we should be able to follow the results on line.
I know I'm more than casually interested in the sale because I have a couple of 3 yr olds bred almost identical (particularly the Mito Paint mares) started that I need to sell. Nice fillies, but sure going to waste in the pasture. Anybody interested?
