I didn't know if this is the right place for it or not, but here it is. I got and e-mail tonight that I am a little confused about.

Quote:
Fellow rancher,

I have a question or two.

1) How does your quality of beef assured the sodium suffides are decreased before the product gets to market? Is your water tested for sodium or what?
2) Is solar power a practical souce of power for your water source these days?
I ask the second question because of the South Texas draught. Your pasture looks so green and great for your cattle.

3) What do you do above huisache control?

I have a hay meadow and I can't get a local ranchers to mow and bale it for me on halves. Do you have any ideas on how that I may be able to better encourage them to work with me? I manage two ranches: 84 acres of land with Gardo hay in Da Costa, and up and coming 45 acres in Inez, Texas, all about 125 miles southwest of Houston, TX.

4) I like your spread with the oak trees and no brush. What type of grass do you have for your growing herd?

The property I manage at Inez is much like that as it is bordered on one side by the Arenosa Creek. This is no help as the Lavaca Bay has backed up into the creek and it has turned to salt water. Livestock and local wildlife don't drink from it. I can catch trout in the creek. There seems to be larger fish moving in to have an meal on the smaller fish. I will have to do the water well and rain runoff for fresh water for my cattle type leasers. I have to drill a well yet because my prior cattle leasee damaged my water well. I don't have a local pond, just a shot hole which collects water occasionally with heavy rains. I thought about aireating the new pond it for algea control and fish life. I currently have the land leased for dove and deer hunting.

Thanks for your answers to my questions, tips and suggestions.

I have some hay and pasture grazing listed on TDA web-site; that would be the only place he got it. He list his name, phone number and address in the e-mail I just didn't want to list it here for his privacy. I also have pictures of the hay and pasture on the web-site. I just never had someone contact me like this.

Looks to me like he (she ?) was either inebriated when they wrote the email, or just not very well 'educated'...grammer-wise (english)...probably someone from our southern-border, or 'new money' rancher from Argentina or other European-type locale, new to the area...just trying to get to know you and the neighbors ?

That's my best educated guess...
