Do you honestly think that hit was intentional? It was unfortunate The Montreal player got hurt but I don't think for a minute Chara ran his head into that stantion on purpose. It's a game played at high speed by big men. I don't know what the NHL and NFL can do to eliminate head hits-both intended and unintended.

He is a "Professional Thug" and knew exactly what he was doing, but maybe didn't take in to account the stanchion being there, which he should/might have.

That last push with his left arm leaves his entire intent up to interpretation.

There is a difference in a clean hit and the not so clean.

He's a big tough defenceman-no different than a big tough middle linebacker-have you ever played or watched a game live? Have any concept of how fast it's played at the NHL level. I doubt it but once again you've hopped up on the bandwagon.

I fully understand these guys aren't choirboys, but don't understand the ineptitude of those trying to defend thuggery.

Until the fans quit condoning it and excusing it away, it will continue.

The whole of society has become numb to violent acts. You are one example.

It is not necessarily manhood to hurt someone.

So you've never played or watched a game live. I've coached and played for 40 plus years-don't think I never worried about my players getting hurt. Try and grasp the concept of a big man skating close to 30 mph and another huge man pivoting to stop him-now look up momentum in a dictionary-now try and grasp that you don't have time to make a conscious decision to hurt somebody. The speed, size and equipment of pro football and hockey players has surpassed the human bodies ability to absorb some of the hits that result. The hit that put Crosby out was dirty-the Chara hit was an action/reaction that happened on in an unfortunate area of the ice is all. The most cowardly play in pro sports is throwing at a batter or running down a catcher but nobody is beating their breast about that.

WHAT! Throwing inside and protecting the plate is a huge part of baseball! Make Barry Bonds take of his armor and stand in there against Bob Gibson or Nolan Ryan! He'd pee his steroid infated self! And when a runner is heading for home and a catcher cuts off the path to home base, what should the runner do? Stop and offer an apology? If you hit a home run off of me (Which would be rally, really easy by the way) Laughing , and then posed and pranced around the bases with a look at me attitude, I'd thump you right in the ribs next time up. You'd charge the mound and we'd wrastle til we were both tired or our team mates resuced us. Laughing Laughing I have played hockey on a frozen pond about half a dozen times. It was all I could do to stand up, much less turn or stop. While NHL players are some of the best atheletes on the planet, I thought the hit was too hard. But that's just me. When we playin' baseball? Laughing Wink

Baseball brawls are right up there with girl fights-at least Nolan Ryan could throw a pitch and a punch. Part of surviving in hockey is being aware of who your up against-the montreal guy thought he was fast enough to board climb past Chara-he had alot of options on that play he tried to beat and stud d-man inside and didn't. No different than catching a ball over the middle in the NFL sometimes you get hammered.

Just got home from the hockey game in Rapid City(great win by the Rush)Hockey is a tough mans sport, hard hits, and injuries are part of the game.Any of you guys from Canada ever seen or heard of Konrad Reeder from Vanderhoof,B.C?He is wearing a Rush sweater now, pretty exciting to watch.I would still rather watch a hockey game than any other sport.
