| So...do you think the generics are as good as the brand names? We finally bangs vaccinated the heifers today, and asked the vet what he thinks about wormers. He said what he's been reading says the generics are about 1/2 as effective as the name brands.

| I haven't seen any reason to believe there is any difference. The active ingredient is ivermectin in all of them.

We've used 2 or 3 different generics that were puchased out of the States.
Make sure the dosage is right or a touch above and no problems.
The only brand we had bad luck with was Cydectin.

| There is no data to support that generic wormers are not as effective as brand names. They both are subject to the same regulations in America. A true generic is simply a different label once patents expire.

| I've been told the only difference is the adjuvant that is used between name brand and generic. Last year my vet recommended administering 10% over the dosage amount and was pleased with the results.

After using the "real" Ivomec for years I was concerned switching to generics. But after paying $500/ jugs and then when they got some competition were able to lower their price way down it made me mad enough to use the generic brands, I think I payed $45/jug this fall. For that money i could run everything through the chute again if needed.
We use a ivermecton product in the fall and Cylence in the spring to clean up any lice and get a head start on the flies.

| ive used ivermectin probably for the last 10 years straight, priced well, no problems. everyone said you need to switch it up every so often for resistance but i tried cydectin one year and i must have read the label wrong cause i thought it said to prevent lice not give it to them. dectomax around here is pretty pricy. the cydectin rep came out here with the mess over cydectin and used silence and it cleaned them up in a hurry. i don't see a reason to quit using ivermectin at $45/5Litre.

O.K., just to stir things up a bit - we have been told that some products have a greater negative impact on the beetles that break up the cow pies next summer due to residual effect. Ivomec supposedly leave a greater residue in the manure which in turn inhibits dung beetles while Dectomax doesn't have the same effect.
Thus, I use Ivomec in the fall and Dectomax in the spring.
Any other information or opinion on this out there?
