AREA FORECAST DISCUSSION NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE GLASGOW MT 200 PM MST TUE DEC 13 2005 .SHORT TERM FOR NORTHEAST MONTANA...TONIGHT THROUGH THURSDAY... UPPER TROUGH CURRENTLY DIGGING INTO MONTANA WITH CLOSED UPPER LOW DEVELOPING OVER SASKATCHEWAN. THIS TROUGH WILL CONTINUE TO DIG TONIGHT BRINGING A SERIES OF SHORTWAVES ACROSS THE STATE. SNOW HAS DEVELOPED OVER THE WESTERN ZONES AS OF 21Z AND WILL OVERSPREAD THE FORECAST AREA IN THE NEXT FEW HOURS. MODELS ARE IN GOOD AGREEMENT IN THE SHORT TERM OTHER THAN THE GFS BEING WETTER THAN THE NAM. THE CLOSED UPPER LOW SLOWLY MOVES ACROSS SOUTHERN SASKATCHEWAN TONIGHT AND WESTERN NORTH DAKOTA WEDNESDAY AND WEDNESDAY NIGHT. THIS WILL BRING WRAP AROUND MOISTURE ALONG WITH FREQUENT SHORTWAVES THROUGH WEDNESDAY NIGHT OVER EASTERN MONTANA. WITH THE SLOW MOVEMENT AND DEEP MOISTURE...WILL FAVOR THE WETTER GFS IN THE SNOW FORECAST. LOOKING AT A LONG DURATION OF LIGHT SNOW WITH THIS SYSTEM WITH MORE THAN ENOUGH WIND TO BLOW AROUND ANY SNOW THAT ACCUMULATES. WITH 850 MB WINDS FORECASTED BETWEEN 40 AND 45 KNOTS...SURFACE WINDS SHOULD STAY BELOW BLIZZARD WARNING CRITERIA WITH THIS EVENT. WITH UP TO 6 INCHES OF SNOW POSSIBLE THROUGH WEDNESDAY NIGHT ALONG WITH BLOWING SNOW...WILL ISSUE A SNOW AND BLOWING SNOW ADVISORY FOR TONIGHT THROUGH WEDNESDAY NIGHT OVER MOST AREAS. WILL LIMIT THE ADVISORY UNTIL 18Z WED FOR PETROLEUM COUNTY AS THAT AREA WILL BE ON THE WESTERN EDGE OF THE SYSTEM. WILL KEEP PHILLIPS COUNTY OUT OF THE ADVISORY AT THIS TIME AS THEY SHOULD BE WEST OF THE MAIN SNOW BAND. UPPER LOW EXITS THE AREA WEDNESDAY NIGHT LEAVING BEHIND NORTHWEST FLOW ALOFT. ANOTHER SHORTWAVE CLIPS NE MONTANA ON THURSDAY WITH LIMITED MOISTURE. WILL MENTION A CHANCE OF SNOW IN THE EAST AND SLIGHT CHANCE IN THE WEST.

It's a wet, nasty snow. And it's blowing, too. Good evening to stay indoors and catch up on some reading, or if you're my husband, snooze the evening away!

Greg: It was one miserable sow of a day; was hauling calves to market...the hi-ways were not fun. You wouldn't want to trade a bunch of wet snow for the chance to get your land tax records back before the end of the year??? Wink Twisted Evil
