| My 'pet' cow (my 4-H Cow) had a beautiful simmie/angus cross heifer calf. I went out to check on them, and my pair, including the 2 /12 mos. heifer calf were fine, and when we just went out to do chores, she was dead. We had some twins a few days ago, and dad gave me a choice of 4 of them. There were 3 bulls, and 1 heifer. I picked a black bull calf. (simmie/RA/BA) The cow still is bawling, and thos was the first time I dried since my grandpa died a little over a year ago. She accepted the calf, but is still bawling for her old calf. She diddn't deserve this. She had hers trampled last year, and was a good mother, show cow, and at times, my best friend. I had that calf so tame you could walk to the house, and it would follow you, and the cow is the same. Too bad it happened, but I think that it better to happen to me, then a farmer that is struggling. I can sell this bull calf to our neighbor, because he wanted one like it, but I won't make as much money for university. Ohwell, university can wait for a year after highschool, and i could get a job to help get through it.

ACS, it could have been entertoxemia. Happens to the biggest and best calves.
Again, your good attitude prevails. That will see you through a lot of things in this old world.

| Well, I was stressed, and I lost out on a $3000.00 scholarship today, but I am going for one in 4-H. That day we also had 2 cows abort, lost one other calf besides mine, and we had two sick kids. Thanks for the help, and I hope that I do get a few scholarships soon. I want to go to Ag. and then come back to the farm and help Dad, and mabye when Dad retires, I cn take over the farm!

Hey ACS,
Here is a site for a few entrance awards http://explore.usask.ca/moneymatters/awards/entering/ . A few of them are campus wide and some will also be just agriculture. I didn't think you were going to school for a few years yet. If you are coming this year, you need to apply by march 15th... I think they have definitely increased the amount of scholarships for first years, compared to when I started.
If you are coming soon make sure you join the Stockman's & Rodeo Club, we just got back from touring around Lethbridge all weekend it was awesome.
Hope that helps!
