DeLay Will Not Seek Re-election to Congress
By THE NEW YORK TIMES

WASHINGTON, April 4 - Rep. Tom DeLay will announce on Tuesday that he will not seek re-election and will leave Congress within months, according to congressional aides.

The aides said that Mr. DeLay, who has been swept into an election-year lobbying scandal, was calling congressional leaders Monday night to inform them of his plans.

Mr. DeLay, 58, an 11-term congressman, had stepped down temporarily as the House majority leader last fall after after his indictment in Texas on campaign-related charges of money laundering.

In January he said he was stepping aside from the job permanently to avoid becoming a political liability as Republicans face a determined Democratic challenge to their majority in the midterm elections.

The news of Mr. DeLay's decision broke on television stations about 10 p.m. Monday night. An article on the Time magazine Web site, based on an interview with Mr. DeLay, earlier in the day, said that Mr. DeLay "vowed to pursue an aggressive speaking and organizing campaign aimed at promoting foster care, Republican candidates and a closer connection between religion and government."

Thank God to made a lot of money under the table to supplement his full pension from the taxpayers. Wink

Maybe he will be able to convince his constituents to have a spaghetti supper for him so he won't have to forego his current lifestyle.

How soon before he becomes a lobbyist? Mad

Well that depends upon whether he gets indicted. I think it's significant that he pulled out after a strong showing in the Republican primary and RIGHT AFTER a top aide of his was indicted. I wonder whether he isn't pulling out because he knows he'll end up indicted and he got pressured to pull out. It's very un Tom DeLay to pull out now.

Some of what I've been catching lately appears that now that Abramoff and his partner have plead guilty the investigators can concentrate on the info they are giving them and pursue the rest of the crooks- especially those that reside on the Hill...

I think we will see more pulling out of the election or being indicted before election time...... Smile Clap Time to clean house.......
