I recentally photographed a wedding. I was an outdoor wedding at a city park gazebo and they used a "rent a minister" kinda deal. What they did was flip thru the yellow pages to find someone to officiate the wedding and make it legal like.

Anyhow, I was told before the ceremony that there was an irate grandfather who was not happy with the location or the miniser and he may make a scene durning the wedding. I was asked to pay him no mind.

Come to find out he was upset with the fact that his grand daughter's wedding was not in a church and really upset that the minister was a woman.
He actually stood up and objected to the union of the man and woman. Shocked

His reasoning was that the marriage was starting in sin because of the woman minister. He quoted scripture fron Corinthians and Titus.
I went home and read a bit.

After my reading, I was wondering how many of you folk might agree with the grandfather.

I am catholic, so it wouldn't ever happen to me. Those of other religions have women pastors and I guess if that is what they want, it's sure ok with me. I guess if my children were married in another church by a woman pastor, I wouldn't have a problem, with the pastor, anyway. Wink

I have a problem with female ministers..... it just don't feel right to me. they don't hold the same "grip" on a congregation......

but then again I am not 100% sold on the whole idea of organized religion.....
the vast majority of Sunday hippocrites have ruined it for me.

hard to love thy neighbor on Sunday and screw him on Monday and still be holding your head up high as a church deacon. those types just really burn my toast!

You never met Pastor Donna.
An English teacher in her earlier life, she used the same tricks in church she had in high school to maintain interest and attention. Wink

This thread kinda reminds me of an old story.
Seems one Sunday the church was full and services were about to start. All of a sudden there was a terrible stench and hissing sound & the devil jumped up in the middle of the altar. People were screaming and running for the doors in pure panic. All except this 85 year old man who just sat there with his hands resting on his cane watching all of this.
The devil jumped in front of him and yelled “Don’t you know who I am?”
The old guy calmly said “Yep, I know who you are.”
The devil said “Don’t you know what I could do to you? I could make your life pain & agony! I could make you miserable for the rest of your days!”
The elderly gentleman said “Yep, I know that.”
The devil said “If you know that, why aren’t you afraid of me?”
The old guy calmly said “Cause I’ve been married to your sister for over 50 years!” Shocked Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing

Too many people forget that during Timothy & the time of the Corinthianan church women led the mystery religions which included sex orgies. The letters Paul was writting he was cautioning women not to speak publicly with the idea of making an appeal on the basis of sex. Paul says women are to pray in public, he was telling them how to pray.
Churchs miss something when they will not use the talent of thier women. God can and WILL use them in His work. The confusion that exists about this rather practical issue has been brought about by a misunderstanding of these passages of Scriptures and also by an unfamiliarity with the Roman world of Pauls day.
Lets establish first that God has used women. In the Bible we see Deborah, Queen Ester,Ruth and others. In church history, we find women like Mary Fletcher and Priscilla Gurney. There are multitudes of others whom God has used in a wonderful way.
However, in the Roman world the female principle was a part of all the heathen religions, and womne occpied a prominent place. The worship of Aphrodite at Corinth was probably one of the most immoral in which prostitution was actually made into a religion. The thousand vestal virgins who were in the temple of Aphrodite on top of the Acropolis there at Corinth were nothing in the world but prostitutes. They were characterized by very disheveled hair. The resdon God said that a woman should cover her head was so she would not be associated at all with religions like this. Also, in Ephesus where Timothy was at this time, women occupied a very prominent postion in the worship at the temple of Diana. In all the mystery religions there were priestesses. It is because of these heathen practices that Paul is emphasizing in thes passages that the matter of sex is not to enter into the public prayer in the services of the Christian churches.
Dont ever say women brought sin into the world, unless you are prepared to add women also brought the Savior into the world.
We need to approach these passages with these factors in mind.
