| I understand schooling has high costs....In canada its a known fact that to make things work,we rely on a volunteer system....Our coaches, reffs and transportation to games is well, almost 100% volunteer(teachers and parents) at the school level.....I hear mothers now help in class rooms, for they are just to full for one teacher to follow all the children,on a dailly one to one basis...All coaching outside of the schools is also in most cases volunteer..Cross walk attendants, for elmentry school are volunteer elderly folks...Parents work hard together to make their childs school fun.....and it may not be the topic here but we dont have marching bands or big football programs here that suck money out......all of those things are parent funded and voluteerly looked after...if my son or daughter want to play sports i better be perpared to coach...I must say though i applaud teachers for thier continuing to look out for the students no matter how bad it gets......and it can get pretty frustrating to teach, when there are so many obsticles to push through everyday, from class size to not enough books or desks........not to mention some pretty crummy home lives kids can come from......

| They ~the School Board~ are asking for 1.26 BILLION. Yes I said BILLION ......Have I gone crazy |
what is the per student cost?
is this for K-12?
our K-8, program costs about lower so it offsets the higher 9-12....
plus the tech school which has a great per student cost is "added in"...making the total district cost high when in reality we have a few poor schools sucking the others dry...
Special ed is seperate as well as the tech school, but to get the per cost per student lower they lump the cost effective schools with the lousey performing school to make the per student cost seem less obscene....
and even doing that we still have one of the highest cost per student high schools in the state, with the lowest grad rate and test scores....
