Fat is sure a prettier color on cattle than it is on people. Wink

You all know I have a chip on my shoulder about how overweight people are treated in America. Especially middle aged women who have to eat only salad and starve themselves or be subject to ridicule given how size 6 and age 22 are the norm for beauty in the U.S.

We fight all types of discrimination but the attitude towards overweight people in the U.S. is truly a form of discrimination. I say this at the same time I am dieting and getting into rigorous exercise both for looks and health. But still, I have NEVER fit into standard sizes well and it has gotten worse and worse in the U.S. as far as attitudes towards women's bodies. Perfectly lovely woman are miserable and have low self esteem if they deviate from the Paris Hilton body.

So whose fault is that?

Have you ever heard of differentiation?

It's no fun shoppin for small size women's clothes either. If they do carry them, they don't carry enuff of them, they are all gone off the shelf lickity split. I can't find clothes for Lil Lilly at all. Everything is geared towards the chunkier sizes than one's that fit her. Same goes for me, cept I'm easy, I wear Wranglers 90% of the time.......I just hafta gripe at the Cavendar's or Baskin's managers because they won't carry them in 36 length much. If they don't have them in stock, they'll order them for me.

Have to agree with you Lilly-I also wear wranglers most of the time and have to order them 'cause there are no decent ranch clothing stores close. Also,It is not easy to find smaller sizes and not much selection either. So it goes both ways. Guess I just plain hate most of the new styles!

ditto, mrsgreg!!! for the "average" woman, there really is no such thing as fun shopping in clothes stores!! My size 5 daughter has a ball, but much different for a 37 year old mother of 4!! I feel like an idiot trying on clothes that ride the hips and show a little more skin than I feel comfortable!!!
A few weeks ago, folks, I started a serious exercise/diet program....not because I wanna be the size 4 I was when cowboyup and I met and married, but because I simply do not feel healthy the way I am! If my waist shrinks and I go down a size or two...GREAT!! But, even more important is lowering my cholesterol ( was 184 at the health fair last month, but my "bad cholesterol" and my triglycerides were through the roof! Shocked ) and lowering my chances of cancers (endometrial, kidney, breast, etc) and diabetes (which runs rather rampant in my family)!! I realized that I wanna be around for grandkids and maybe even great-grandkids!! I know that fate has in mind for us when our time is up, but I simply do not wanna push my luck! Wink 8 pounds down and 22 to go!!! Wish me luck folks!! Confused

Way to go Ranchwife...we all could use you for some inspiration. Both Mr. TTB and I have been trying to get into better shape and exercise...without a doubt he's been more sucessful than I.

Sometime ago, I thought we should try and have a ranchers.net weightloss/exercise "contest"....or maybe moral support group type of thing. I didn't give it much more thought, but maybe it's a decent idea.

Again, congrats, ranchwife. You should be proud of yourself!

Cheers---

TTB Wink

Well for us that are built like a brick shithouse it's hard to find coveralls big enough in the shoulders that aren't a foot too long in the legs. From a totally male perspective-if you are an easy keeping lady just dress accordingly-nothing looks worse than 75 pounds of flour in a 50 pound sack-cover things up a bit we've all got a good imagination. Very Happy

Well I am a big girl, and I keep my self well covered. And it isnt that we want to be this way, sometimes I think the gene pool just left us with it. I have my check ups regularly, and I as healthy as a horse lmao. NR I have always said if I were a cow or horse I would be worth a million just in the easy upkeep. ;)

Oh well, I do understand Reader about picking clothes though, I am way picky as well and only wear jeans so it has become harder now, and Wranglers dont look like they use to when I was 19 lol. I keep thinking now that the boys are grown, that its time for me...but when do you get time for yourself as a mom, and work and now I go to college full time??? Oh well I am for the most part happy, and my self esteem is just where it should be...we do not have to like our size but we can be happy with who we are. We are REAL and that is what counts. I have found that I am not nearly judged on my size as much as being REAL, and enjoying my life. And that part I do well....laugh and the world laughs with you....

For me being 5'8" and about 130 lbs....and age 45....Cruel Girl jean seem to be the best fit I can ORDER.

Can't find anything to fit in the stores...get'em to fit in the tush and they're too big in the waist.

Don't think it's all people overweight that have a hard time buying clothes that fit.... thin folks have a devil of a time. I'm a size 8/10...and it's hard to find womens clothes in those sizes...they usually start at 14's and go up.
