brought them in to show the kids and now I think we have a problem! I sure do not want the dang things round here, but I am not man enough to break their hearts.....

They are cute when they are little- but can be a pain in the butt when they get bigger...
Jigs- If you get forced into keeping them check your local laws and regulations-- some states have outlawed them as pets because of rabies and stuff- or have requirements on shots .... The little Indian kids used to catch them and sell them as pets as they don't have to follow state law......

Oh jigs!! I kept a boar coon for over 14 yrs and he was GREAT!!! He stayed in the house for years, used a litter box and thought he was either a short human or a funny looking cat/dog cause he sure wasn't a coonish acting coon! I later moved him out into an old playhouse that I converted into a CoonCondo.
He hated raw fish and could not climb a tree!!! When he died of heart failure at the old age of 14....he weighed 42 lbs!!
They make great pets BUT you really have to have the time to spend with them and it's like a dog...they have to learn that you're the " head coon"!
But as far as laffs and fun....you can't beat them!
Just make sure you put the cookies in the fridge!!
As far as the vaccinations....if you've got a "cool" vet...it's no problem to get and extra rabies shot for " the new dog"!!!

| Jigs, check with your vet about comunicable diseases. When our vet saw that our youngsters had just found some orphaned coons abd were raising them for pets, he strongly discouraged us from letting the kids keep them for that reason.

well I gave all 3 to a neighbor who had raised some before. I knew that I would not have the time to invest in them.
really tore up my 5 yr old....she thought they were hers! I just wanted them to see them, had no idea they would want them.
I am almost affraid to go out to the hay shed, pretty sure that old sow is waiting for me !!!

You MIGHT could try to place the kits back where they were and she MIGHT take them. Yeah they've been handled a lot...but if she's a super good Mom...she just might take them. Might be worth a try. I have seen it happen once or twice but again, depends if she's a good momma or not.
She'd come back to them anyway if they'd been left alone. I got mine when the Momma Coon was killed and this was the only baby left alive.
