I don't have the papers, just asked the man when I bought him and wrote down what he read offa the registration papers. I looked at it as I was writin it down. Even asked how to pronounce that "Cholotte' " when we were talking. It doesn't sound like chocolate.......more like....hmmmm lets see if I can do a phonetic spelling......Cho (long o) - lo (long o) - tte (tay)
Oh well......may never know, and it really doesn't matter. I was just curious if anyone knew what it meant......

Lilli,
Even if you didn't have any intention of transferring the the registration papers, you should have gotten them with the horse. I'm just curious as to why the seller didn't give them to you.

| He was holdin em hostage!!!! (the papers that is) and wanted another $100 for them. I'm just not that bigga "registered" horse person. I liked the horse, bought him thru an auction, auctioneer did say that the owner had the papers on him, and to get with him after the sale was over. I did, and he wanted more money.......which I wasn't willin to pay. Kinda seemed a lil on the strange side to me that someone would want to "sell" the papers.....and that just kinda rubbed me the wrong way. For what he'll be used for, it ain't gonna matter whether he has papers or not. I realize it might up his price a lil bit if we ever decided to sell him. But oh well. There's just as many, if not more, good workin ranch horses without papers as there are with papers.

| I have never heard of anyone "selling" the papers. Papers just naturally go with the horse, even if it is sold as a canner. Like you said, for what you are going to use him for, you don't need them. But it would have rubbed me the wrong way, too!

Not to stand up for the guy 'selling' the papers, but you know, if registered cattle sell too cheap, usually you have to pay extra to get the papers. Probably selling the horse for $375 had a little to do with it.
I am suprised that the auction didn't require the papers be turned in when the guy consigned the horse.
For $375 I doubt if it matters much anyway if Jersey Lilly got the papers or not. Especially if it is a nice horse.

| I don't sell the papers with the horse unless it is a ranch sale or I know the people. If they want the papers they can pay more for them. Too many horse swappers that go to sales and buy horses cheap with papers that match a grade horse they have at home.

#1If that guy was not prepared to let his horse go for $375 then he should have placed a minimum bid.
#2 He should have known better. Most colts go for meat prices at auctions. If they cant slide, spin or run a barrel pattern they aint worth much.
#3 He is going to try that stunt (selling the papers)on the wrong person and get his a$$ kicked.
