Good Sunday Mornin’ to all you kind folks. Today (Thursday), as I write this, it’s snowing, but earlier this week the sun was shinin’ and I was horseback in my shirtsleeves. I spent a couple of hours riding the cattle. Calves were playing - running hard in one direction then scurrying back the tother way, with tails sticking straight up. Found one that was still pretty wobbly. Amazing how wobbly they can be until they get a hold on a teat, then they steady right up. Found another one that hadn’t been up. He was shaking his head while mom was busy licking him dry. Her wet tongue does lots better than a dry terrycloth towel! Grass is trying to green up. A little warm weather and maybe we can turn out. The sky was clear blue. A jet full of busy people was leaving its tracks up high. I thought that they may have been headed from Denver to Dallas, and they would get there in the amount of time that I had taken never getting more than a mile from my bedroom. Then I wondered if they were really doing or seeing anything more worthwhile than I. I thought of the tumbleweeds that had hurried through the yard the day before. They were headed nowhere in particular, but they were sure making good time getting there. Then I remembered my dad’s words; “there is a difference between going fast and getting somewhere.” Seems like the bigger hurry I’m in the more mistakes I make, and the more I forget. We all suffer from getting in too big of a hurry at times. The Lord cautions us about that. Patience is one of the fruits of the Spirit. How much trouble did Saul experience because of impatience? He lost the kingdom over it. Are you getting somewhere worthwhile, or just going fast? Well, I had better take time to re-read this and hope some of it can soak in! Have yourselves a good Sunday mornin’, and a good rest of the week too. Today, Sunday, the sun is shining again.

Shortstuff--where is dusty flats? I used to live in a place like that, but this am its muddy mess. Had about 10 inches of heavvvy wettt snow. over an inch of water in it. Laid flat with no wind. Now its warm & going into the ground. Looks like early grass on this outfit. I can remember a couple of this kind of snows, but not very many--Praise the Lord!

Thanks for your message. I am just now getting to read it, and it's almost 11 pm Sunday night.
I was awakened this mornin by a phone call. Tellin me that All of Lil Lilly's Show heifers, and our two new bulls were out. It's really hard to have patience when these kinda things keep happenin. Waitin on the RR to come thru with fencing materials, when what we really wanna do is take the bull dozer in and start buildin new fence. So off we went to go get em back in, was a fairly easy job. Since they were standin at the gate goin into the place. Like they "KNEW" that was the way back home. Since it was much easier to just open the gate and let em back in, that's what happened. We went in and fixed the fence in their pasture, but didnt put them back in. With all the green grass that's growin now, I suggested just leavin em out until we work cows in a couple weeks. Won't hurt em none at all. Plus it's time to turn the bulls in with the other cows anyway. It all worked out nicely. It was perdy nippy this mornin, I wore my coveralls again today (Jassy ) But before gettin started good it was time to take em off. Before the job was finished, we were workin in shirt sleeves. I do however have a dislike for net wire. I'll never build another fence usin net wire ever again if I can help it. We've had nothin but trouble with it from day one.
All in all it was a lovely day, we all kept our patience about us, and worked together and actually had a great time doin it. That's the way we try to always be, no matter what we are doin, no matter how aggrivatin the job could be, have fun while your doin it. After gettin them back in, we ran to town and got summer sausage, cheese and crackers, and a few sodas. After the job was finished, around noon, we sat down on the tailgate of the truck, and had a mini picnic.
This evenin I went out and rode thru the pasture, called the cows up, just to make sure everone was gettin along. Few pushes and shoves here n there, but nothin too serious.
