Looked at the calender last night and realized that in 13 days it will be the first anniversary of my best friends death.
I couldn't sleep and a poem got started in my head, so I stayed up and wrote it.


My Friend

I still see you there
on that big gray horse
you always rode

A smile on your face
as for sheer pleasure
you always rode

I did tease you about
that horse you rode
You just smiled and
offered me a turn

I always turned you down
for that big gray of yours hurt
me once before

Now at this time
in my head it echos
forever more, your voice,
your laugh and your
teaching words

This loneliness that seems
to never end
I miss you everyday

Kelly my dear friend

The things that we did
the trips that we took
the burdens we shared
of horses, kids and trucks
and stories of the husbands
on how they drove us nuts

I don't know when it all changed
I just can't place a date of how
and when we went from being
friends to being sisters began

Was it that day the big gray
threw me and you popped my
shoulder back in?

Or did it start before before that time?

Or was it sometime after?
It matters not now when it began
but I'm glad it did begin

It is almost a year since you left
us and I still shed a tear
I still want to call you and ask
your advice, to hear your voice
again

There is no one who can replace
you in my life
For in that spot of my heart and soul
is a quiet spot for you and you alone

You were my first real friend and I
will miss you until we meet again
to do the rides we always planned,
but this time it will happen upon
some different land.

Nice poem.Best friends are not to be takin lightly....they're family we chose. Sorry yours can't walk lifes path with you but she will always be at your side.
