he was tall and dark----out of marlboro land
he carried a smooth talk----and a gavel in his hand

together,they rode the pastures----from the rising sun
checking fences and cattle----and what ever needed done

when at the spur of the moment----of a day towards the end
she had an affair----with the auctioneers best friend

he was pot bellied and bald headed----as he rode a broke down stud
called himself a cattle buyer----and had the brains of a milk dud

the story was sad one----as he cried in his beer
