I should be somewhat of an expert about DMSO. A couple of horror stories first-had the duty to take a guy to the local hospital who used it on dogs with his bare hands/swelled up about 3 x normal in a couple of hours-good news was that they were back to normal in 6 hours.

This stuff if not to be fooled with but is a terrific healing tool if used properly. DO NOT put it on an open cut/wound and I would think that would include an hoof of this type.

I used it first washing the area with a good soap and WARM water (make sure the hair and skin is well rinsed), apply whatever topical you choose but had good luck with absorbine jr-then take a natural bristle paint brush and paint the dmso on the area that you want to drive the topical to(such as a muscle). If you really are in a pinch, wrap the area with saran wrap or a heavy cloth for about 5 min. Guarantee the muscle will not hurt the next day!

Horror story-DMSO will drive whatever to whereever! Like straight to the bone-or the heart! A word of caution-if you use this stuff often, you're going to start to think you smell like garlic! Now if you're racing greyhounds-or horses-... use a little baby powder and it'll be between you and the animal! Still wouldn't use it on a hoof.

Here's someone that as used it and knows How. Most people use DMSO Wrong.

DMSO is a "solvent" (Carrier) - It carriers other Meds. in - even through Hoof walls.

Caution: Don't use with your Bare Hands Exclamation
