i was a have'n fun

Was have'n some fun---untill i entered in a competition
and the answer came back---with serious repetition
ya gotta have rhythm and rhyme---and be a good reader
count your syllables---and watch your meter

it wasn't for the money---i've always been broke
as i sit under my tree---and have another coke
as i ponder and think---of days gone by
the good and the bad---and ask myself why

i recall the days---we farmed with a ford
the day i hit bottom---and discovered the Lord
i had lots of cattle---in my salebarn days
things have changed---in so many ways

i'll think of my ol horse---and my favorite dog
as i sit under the oak---on my knotty log
start me a fire---maybe pop a cold beer
and have me a laugh---as i wipe away the last tear

still a have'n fun---with rhythm and rhyme
write'n my poems---is like keep'n time
i'll count my syllables---try to be a good reader
as i tap my toes---and practice my meter
