I don't plan to keep any heifers this year and need to find a market to sell replacement heifers. As for my AI heifers, I think I have them sold but the ones by the clean up bull trouble me. I have eight of them and need to sell them at weaning in about April. They are sound Angus heifers that come from good Angus cows and a good Newsline clean up bull that should make good cows. But taking them to the stockyard, I won't be able to get any more than stockyard calf prices since I only have the eight.
I am open for any ideas that y'all may be willing to share with me. I would like to sell them at 6 months old right off the mommas and don't know what to ask for them but I would like to get a premium over calf price.
I could vaccinate and wean for a week or two but could sell cheaper right off the momma.
I know it is just eight of them so it may be hard to realize their worth.
Any thoughts?

| Advertise them in your local livestock paper. Do it well enough ahead of time that people can come and see them, even while on their mamas. And offer a bit more value...even if they pay for it, offer to wean them for two weeks, if that helps or even winter them if the buyer needs that done...but get paid for what you do. Many times the extra you offer in service will tip the deal your way.

People try that with angus all the time. Papers are full of them. Truck them north and they sell.
If they had ear, you'd ring the bell at the sale barn around here. Angus are cheap.

I could wean them for a price but I don't want to keep them this summer. I will be full up on grazing without them unless I take in another pasture. So far it has cost too much to send just 8 heifers north.
I think the best case is to Vac and wean but I need to get paid for it and I can't if I have to sell at the stockyard.
Thank y'all so far for ideas and please keep them comming. I bet there are others on here that could use your suggestions.

well right now they look just fine for October november calves. And I will post some breding info soon if y'all think that will help.

How does that work mike? Is it sort of like retained ownership?
Have you done it this way? How many do you need?

It is retained ownership. Haven't done it in a few years but hit the big prices in 2004 and made a pretty good chunk. If you have good stock, they will pay. At least you'll know where you stand.
There's no limits on numbers, but send the whole contemporary group.
Call Josh and tell him, he'll send you the paperwork. They have loads going starting in July-August.

That just might work. I could send my bulls by the clean up bull also. You know i sort of stuck in a box of thinking that I had to sell as replacements but retained ownership might work. I will call Josh. Is he in Clanton?
