If the Federal Government is spending beyond it's means and all this borrowing is to be paid back by our kids, grandkids, greatgrandkids,
is that taxation without representation??
I don't have grandkids, greatgrandkids yet, so presumably their representation isn't born yet either.

When taxpayers finally realize who is going to be paying for all of Obama's spending, that's when the light will come on and the plug will be pulled on him...let's hope sooner than later.

when people finally realize that a good chunk of the american prosperity enjoyed for the last thirty years was on borrowed money maybe you'll get a better perspective on what's been happening. politicians of every stripe are to blame.

I'll agree with you there. Actually, as a conservative, I'm more mad at Republicans - they have no excuse. Liberals are supposed to be rock stupid, but conservatives are supposed to respect fiscal reality.

i think it has to be accepted that the usa (and other countries) have been living beyond their means and will have to accept or suffer a drop in their standard of living. good luck with that. what it means is we haven't been paying the full cost and now the balance is due. i think most of the world is in for a tough ride economically as this all gets sorted out. one of the major problems i see is that economies have been structured to transfer wealth to the powerful at the expense of the middle class and this has to be changed for economies to become innovative, productive and efficient again.

You are right on, Don!!!!

As for going about changing it...at some point, probably not in our lifetimes, or at least in my lifetime, the system will self correct...which would be the only peaceful alternative.

Folks, do you really want armed revolution? That's insane...yet I've read a lot of insanity here lately...and more's the pity!

Citizens have been paying taxes to cover the expenditures of their leaders/gov't since civilization as we know it was established.

You all act like this is the first you've heard of it?
