Is there a DNA test that will identify the McNab breed?

Postby twoakers » Thu Mar 01, 2012 11:36 pm

I am a Sheriff's Deputy and my partner is my K9 "Boots", a narcotics-detection dog. I found Boots as a stray when she was only approximately 5-6 weeks old, so I have no history on her. I have pretty much determined that she is either a McNab / Border Collie mix, or a full-blooded McNab. I really want to know her exact breed (or as close as I can get) but I have yet to find a company that does DNA tests that include identifying the McNab breed. Does anyone know what I can do to determine her makeup? I have had many people who have great knowledge of the breeds mentioned give me their best guess, but I want more.

Thank you.

I quickly looked at this sitehttp://www.dog-dna.com/breed/coming-soon.php

It doesn't list McNab but it could rule out just about every other possibility. :D

Sounds like Boots is pretty special. :D

I'd enjoy hearing more about your good dog.
Good luck finding out what she is. I guess it really doesn't
matter if she's good one. Are you wanting to breed her?

We had a Border collie/McNab cross and I've known a few.
