Yes it's always fun to talk horses and post a few pic,s of a horse or saddle, I'll tell you upfront I know exactly what barrel races like/use don't like and don't use, the woods are full of barrel racers around here, honky tanks fill up with them Friday nite in places like Bandera, and most of them can talk the talk and walk the walk, notice I said most of them, cuz some of them have those wranglers on so tight they barely can walk, damn I hate it when they wear those wranglers so tight I caint breathe much less them, anyhow back to the filly.
Floyd is right the girls that had her lost every battle with the long legged filly when they would try and bridle her and had her good and head shy, so I get this filly and she sticks her head in the air, I got long arms so that didn't work for her, it didn't take her but a second to hide her head in a corner and keep her butt between me and her head, every time I tried to move around her she would move to position that big butt of hers in the way, so I start to push her rear end over and that's when she crossed the line, she started kicking at me. After our talk her and I knew who was boss and in a couple days I had her following me around like a puppy, and she has been a sweetie since. Tie down helps an awful lot when you are starting a young horse to bridle give them enough head so they don't feel trapped but not enough to make bridling hard, last thing I wanted this filly to do was win even once in the bridling process, after I bridled her a few times she acts like she has been bridled for years, tie down can come off soon, I'm through with that tool, every thing else will be up to the Lady that owns her.
And just for grins, I love a square pen for training horses...... Why ?
Good luck

Thanks for the early morning chuckle, HAY MAKER. :-) On your horse-breaking methods, you make a lot of sense. The ends justify the means. Everyone has their own ways of making things work. Thanks for the entertainment.

My guess is you can corner them and teach them to trust you when they are trapped....

That was hilarous. Leave it to haymaker to make me giggle.
