    No one else has bothered......

I'd like to add a few comments to this topic. I spent 11 1/2 months in Iraq (April '03 - March '04). I came home with all the guys and gals with whom I went over with, something I am incredibly thankful for. I also came home with a piece of an Iraqi mortar in my back. So my view of the war...

    AI school

Thanks for the advice everyone. My dad AI-ed his cows and heifers for quite a few years by himself so if I get in a jam he will probably be able to help. I was just old enough to do a handful by myself with his supervision and remember struggling for 10 minutes just to watch him take over and...

    AI school

I am planning on AI-ing my heifers next year but figured I better learn how to do it first. Any advice where to go to AI school at? Here's some background on my situation. I want to use AI to improve my female breeding stock. I have a commercial black angus herd, some mine and some on share...

    Marines not welcome in Berkeley

I ran across this story tonight. I have never read a news article that has made my blood boil more than this. ---------------------------- http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,327347,00.html Berkeley to Marine Corps: You're Not Welcome Thursday, January 31, 2008 BERKELEY, Calif. — Local...

    Buy a twin bull?

I'm looking for a bull to use on my heifers this summer. I got a local breeder's flier that has a bull with good calving ease EPD's. Only thing is, he weighed 50 lbs at birth and is about 100-150lbs lighter than most of the rest of the bulls on the sale. So I asked the hired man over there...

    Anybody know why,

Denny - seems like 220 ac of corn at $5/bu adds up to more than whatever the silage would be worth...why chop it? Sell the calves off the cow and contract or hedge the corn - I don't claim to be a great marketing mind, but others who are say that is the way to go.

    slam latches for gates

I'm building a new corral at my place and am using those slammer latches in 3 or 4 places. Found a couple leftovers from dad's corral, but I can't find any like them. Looked at Runnings and wasn't real impressed with what they had. Has anyone had a slam latch fail them? I forget the brand...

    About that all volunteer Army

I just took a look at this topic for the first time tonight. I read the first and last pages, so I skipped pages 2-6. Sorry. Here's my take on things. I spent 11 1/2 months in the Diyala Province of Iraq, about 35 mi NE of Baghdad. From my experience, if the only source a person uses to...

    Saddle care

I use neadsfoot something-or-other, oil or compound but I don't recall which. I like to put it on with an old 2" paintbrush. It goes a lot faster than using a rag and you can get in cracks and such much easier. I usually do it over Christmas break from college - always enjoy those winter jobs...

    prairie dog question

To do my bibliography, I may need to get your name and hometown and state so I reference the source correctly. Let me know if that's ok, or just PM me. Thanks.

    prairie dog question

I'm doing a paper about controlling prairie dogs on rangeland. I can't seem to find any data on how fast prairie dog towns can spread. Have any of you had a town spread, or maybe repopulate after poisoning them? How long does it take? My family's operation is on the wrong side of the...
