    Ranching in Kazakhstan

It seems to me a little experimentation with seeded winter annuals like fall rye or triticale may be in order to provide some nutrition in the fall after the first frost. I like the dea of seeding peas into the barley silage. You get them to try triticale or oat silage on a small scale since...

    Ranching in Kazakhstan

What is the feed quality like? In other words do you have access to a testing lab so you can balance a ration? What pasture and range management programs have you considered implementing? Would it be worth while seeding fall rye or winter triticale for pasture? In your silage have you...

    select sires

On the Stenberg website thye claim the daughters are frame score 5. Also the calves out of commercial heifers were 60 LBs. Check out the website: http://www.jbarstenbergranch.com/sc509.htm

Speaking of calving ease Angus bulls can anyone give me some feedback on Stenberg Coalition 509? Here is his picture and numbers: http://origenbeef.org/semen_detail.php?bull=97. With a -5 BWT EPD, a 121 YWT EPD and a 1,.068 LB 205 day weight I am tempted to think this bul is too good to be...

What happens if you cross an F1 cow on an F1 bull?

If you interbreed F1 X F1 you will get every color combination from blacks to red whiteface calves. Not to mention if horned Hereford bulls are used some of the calves with be horned and/or scurred. Not saying the composite wouldn't work, you just would get a technicolor herd out of the deal.

Another dry andn windy year here.

This has been a dry winter and spring in Southern California. So far just 3.5 inches of rain for the season ( since October) when we can expect around 7 inches. Plenty of 50 to 60 MPH Santa Ana winds ( basically a Chinook) to dry everything out as well. It has rained for the past two...

    Opinions wanted from Hereford outfits

I knew once I asked if you would consider a horned bull I would get the ball rolling. For an easy calving bull that works consider AGA 22B Brigadier 97J: http://ulrichherefords.com/97j.htm. He won't put size in his cows but they are good uddered and useful.

Does the Hereford have to be polled?

    Anybody recognize these places?

I am glad I can amuse you. If the location is in California should we call Huell Hawser in to give us the exact location? I mean the guy has likely done a show on the area if it is in the state.

    Anybody recognize these places?

To me it looks like Lassen County in North Eastern California. It sure ain't much like Southern California

    For Shortgrass

Before you get hard over on crossbred Charolais bulls I would want to look at using some red or black factor bulls to produce purebred bulls and some homozygous red or black 3/4 bulls. Janice Sproule did this at her bull sale and did well on these bulls. The advantage to producing a 3/4 bull...

    For Shortgrass

Shortgrass, Since the Char cross commercial female is a rather common occurrence in Canada, crossing back to either a Red Angus Or Hereford bull is a routine thing done to keep the hybrid vigor up and to make sure the calves don't get too white. As long as you choose to use say a good...

    2008 F350 Blown Motor

Eatbeef, Find out what is wrong with your engine and if it requires a new block insist on getting a completely new engine. This will give you the engine that has had most of the updates added with less chance of failure. The firmware updates for any ford diesel was nothing but a fiasco...

    Larceny at the AI Center

It seems that an employee at a small semen broker in Ohio was caught stealing semen to the tune of $ 100,000 worth: http://www.whiotv.com/news/28461625/detail.html. This should be a wake up call to all AI companies to keep better track of the custody of their products.

    TICKS

I have been bitten twice this year already. The chaparral in Southern California has a very heavy population of ticks this year due to the rain. A terrible pest for man or beast. It is so bad if you work in the hills they are wearing flea collars around their ankles. I have been made very...
