Whitewing, we put an innoculant on through the silage cutter as we chop to help preserve the pile. We pack it to get the air out to help stop decomposition. There will be about 4" on top of the pile that will spoil, but the rest of the pile will be just fine. And yes we chop the whole plant. rbt
