    Haines rodeo

I grew up in Joseph. You could count on at least one performance being a soaker. I hope there’s a lot of rain this year. All of Eastern Oregon could use it

Pictures from our visit to the McGinnis Ranch near Baker City, Oregon - June 26, 2019

Well, a hop skip and jump away. Seems like the summer of 2019 was kind of that way. One Internet acquaintance from Nebraska took a trip to the Oregon Coast. I found out too late, tried to make a connection. We just couldn't.

    fescue foot and other pics

I've had cattle in pastures I bring home that are limping. I dry lot for about a week and the limp is gone. I thought it was due to the wet pastures and strain. i am beginning to think this is more of a culprit. These are just pastures though. Not grass seed fields.

Curt Pate, Whitt Hibberd, Bud Williams, Low Stress

I've gotten to where I can predict a lot of the stupid things people are about to do, LOL.

He is... There's a number of guys way better with animals than people. I find myself in that category at time. I understand cattle and horses not understanding or not certain they want to go with the program. And, I tend to be pretty patient. When it comes to people, I somehow feel they should...

Curt Pate, Whitt Hibberd, Bud Williams, Low Stress

I've spent time watching and learning over the years. A lot of what I learned as good Horsemanship transfers to cattle is my feeling. Make the right thing easy, wrong thing hard. Get your stock to respond to lower and lower amounts of pressure. When they even think of responding, release...

    Beef Roadshow in China

Re the red highlighted comment on price~ The dollar id very strong right now. That makes exporting even more difficult in general given its effect on relative pricing.

    Automated weighing

I've not personally used anything. I do know you need to provide a solid surface for the load bars or cells to set on. I'm not certain if a set of 2x6's to slide under would work or not. If my memory serves me right, You'll want to take the load bars offf the chute in transit as well.

    Generational disasters

Another example is the comments about the fire season. Ummmm.... The Great fire of 1910 (Also known as Devilsbroom) was 3 million acres. It stretched from Eastern Washington, across Northern Idaho and Montana (As well as parts of BC I believe).

    Some nice feedback

I helped a single mom (All of about 5 foot tall and 110 pounds) get some equipment and set it up. Basically, it was a Tub, half sheeted alley and a basic Hydraulic chute. She was really appreciative as we put it up. Here's the text I got just a bit ago. Keep in mind, she is fairly novice with...

    Hay Making

We were in a 97% area. I was changing a hose on a hydraulic chute and able to stop occasionally and watch. I was alive for the one in 1979. I remember nothing of it. So, in a way, I was braced for it not being more than what it was. I read about what to expect though. The cool breeze and drop...

He was referred to me. I value that a lot. Guys could easily say nothing as they have no stake in it. They are impressed enough to refer him. He sent videos. Beyond feed efficiency and fleshing as "Easy care", I was really impressed with the dispositions of the cows with new calves. In my...

    Vigortone mineral

Faster horses, my black cows are really black. I know the red hue you are talking about. it generally goes over the shoulders when really bad. It's often the first thing I see if present in someone's cows.

    Vigortone mineral

I won't likely do Purina Wind and rain again. When we stopped using it and went to the 12:6 ultimin, a ton of problems disappeared. One summer, I went back to save on IGR cost. For like 4 months? Anyways, I magically started having to splint newborn calves front legs until they strengthened...

Ok I'll put up something about cattle

Interesting on the Phos.... We sometimes fight Calcium as the vegetables we feed are really low. I've basically never gone to a high Phos because I really haven't seen the cost of over consumption compared to under. I wish my cattle were easier to get to daily. I likely could save a bunch with a...

I don't think my guy in Corvallis Montana shows cattle. He had a pen of calves that topped feed efficiency on a feed test in Salmon ID I believe. He has sent me videos of his cows with new calves. The dispositions are pretty good and everything seems to be the easier fleshing kind. Really nice...
