Some pictures from the desert- part 2

I'm planning on buying a Powder River CH 2000 for myself this fall. Pretty wide opening head gate, low profile floor cattle flow through nicely. Neck extenders do a pretty good job of head control. I grew up using the manuals, so I don't seem to have the handle/head issues. I am also about 5'9"...

    Implanting Heifers ?

LOL, it took over a month for that to sink in and stick with me. I was just reading another post you made elsewhere and thinking, "You know, I always pay extra attention to what Soapweed says" See my above comment. Thanks for answering my question!

    Calving 2016

Good decision on not trying to pull it. I had a friend with a 110 pound calf... Result of the good ol college try is a paralyzed cow. I am fortunate to be close in proximity to a number of Vets. I know guys that have learned to do C-Sections. Not certain where one would go to do so though.

    After market air ride

Mine has the Air Compressor (03 Dodge) and I Love that. The Compressor stopped working and the shop just got it going again. Your comment made me chuckle because I was getting a ton of people flashing their brights on me when my compressor was down. I had never connect the difference the Air...

    Implanting Heifers ?

That's kind of interesting. We don't implant because we get a premium not to. But, a calf implanted at two month, I wonder if most of the effects would be gone by the time they are breeding age if you didn't re-implant at weaning.

Bio Mos vs Citristim...Good stuff or pixie dust?

Yep, the only time I really use it on our home cattle is when I am taking them from poor feed to silage. I learned that by losing two older cows to Acidosis. I now give them a few weeks with the biomoss and good hay to build them up to going on feed. I do similar with the thinner cattle I buy...

Bio Mos vs Citristim...Good stuff or pixie dust?

My take on it all. These Mos Products I use in conjunction at times with Mineral. What we are really looking at is trying to have a healthy gut. My attempts I view as all being preventative. My line of thinking is a healthy gut is the precursor to a healthy animal. I have some bags of...

    Calving 2016

I basically do it as yearlings. So, quite a bit before breeding. That way if they drop out, I can feed them out. LOL, I don't run them through a Chute. I get them to flow calmly. Well, most times ;-} I will say the one year when we AI'd ten heifers we hit 100% conception.

    Calving 2016

We have all heifers we are thinking of keeping palpated to make certain their reproductive tracts are in order. While doing that, we have the vet judge the pelvic opening. I think that has helped us with calving ease as much as anything

Oklahoma rancher dragged to death by calving cow

Oh My... The older I get the less I want anyone else doing things around our cattle. I catch people, including vets, putting themselves into dangerous positions. If you look at the statistics on deaths from cow interactions, the demographics show a life time of experience, but an age of really...

    Interesting information on Prime Rib

I have no desire to cut meat. We used to cut our own deer and elk. And, that was fine. It is much like shoeing horses. I know I don't have the back for it. I Love fat on a Prime Rib. I call it "Meat butter". When I looked at the pictures, I would of chosen the prime grade. My opinion is...

Long Term Effects of Blood Bath in Fed Cattle

Well.... We held calves over and sold them in late February. We did well. Mainly, Cattle have to weigh a lot before discounts apply. This is in part due to the strong dollar (imported lean is cheap and they can blend it with domestic fatter trim). This year, I read somewhere COF numbers are...

    Corral Design

You show 25 foot of space for your tub. Your tub will likely take 20 foot up on a 180 degree tub. That leaves a five foot gate opening... However, your pictures seems like you have a lot more area? One other option I use a lot is a Tub with a ten foot straight panel. Hmmmm... Having troubles...

    Technologies that will go...or not

Best way I can describe it is a Bud Box kind of forms a T. A parallel Box has the box in line with the alley. You still bring the cattle past the alley opening. It is just that they head back directly into it and are going the same direction they came from. I'll figure out how to put a drawing...

    Technologies that will go...or not

Another technology that will expand is cell phone apps. Gallagher has a system to where you get a text message if your fencing system is comprised. Irrigators in my area have a bunch of cell phone notification apps. It will largely have to do with imagination regarding how the cell gets used the...
